Defeating Jennifer

Stiles pulled Evelyn up over the side of the roof before the two took off, running back to the elevator. "Derek!" Evelyn shouted as Stiles slapped his face. "We need to go," Evelyn said as Derek woke up, asking about everyone.

"I'll stall the police. Get him out of here," Stiles said. Evelyn nodded, pulling Derek up and taking off running.

Evelyn slipped into her room, seeing Lexie lying asleep on the small bed. Her father had insisted that the two move into the small guest room after he had learned about Lexie.
"We've got one priority right now, and that is to find Melissa and your dad," Argent said to Stiles as Evelyn walked into the office. "The one thing we don't have is time that's why I need all of you."

"I'm going to see what Deaton knows about telluric currents and look for Marin," Evelyn said. She turned away, stopping in the doorway. "Don't do anything stupid," she said, turning back and looking straight at her father, knowing that he would try to solve the problem by himself.

Evelyn knelt down, looking at the ground. Deaton hadn't been able to give her anything, and Marin was missing. Evelyn tracked her to the woods, but she was still pretty far ahead. Evelyn jumped as her phone rang. She pulled it out of her pocket to see it was Allison; her blood ran cold—the look on her father's face when she'd walked out the door flashing through her head. Evelyn's fingers shook as she answered the phone. "Evelyn," Allison sobbed on the other end.

"Ally, what's wrong?" Evelyn asked, trying to steady her voice.

"She she took him," Allison said, her voice cracking.

"Ally, where are you?" Evelyn asked, tears pricking her eyes

"The clinic," Allison said.

"Stay there." Evelyn said, "I'll be there soon."

Evelyn rushed into the animal clinic. Allison, she called out. She turned the corner to see Allison sitting in the back. "Evelyn," the younger Argent said, reaching out for her sister. Evelyn quickly closed the gap between them, wrapping her arms around Allison.

"We'll find him," she whispered. "I promise we'll find him."

Evelyn sat next to Allison Lexie on her lap as they discussed what to do how to find the nematon. "You're sure you can't tell us where it is?" Stiles asked.

"It has a habit of moving," Evelyn told him, stroking Lexie's long hair as she slowly fell asleep in her lap.

 "Moving?" Issac asked.

"It's a magical tree. It does what it wants," Evelyn said, shrugging, acting like she didn't care so she wouldn't cry. Her dad was missing, and Cora was dying while Derek sat next to her, waiting for Kali to attack.

"Then how do we find this place?" Issac asked.

"There might be a way, but it's dangerous, and we're going to need Scott," Deaton said.

Evelyn pulled Deaton off to the side as the others got ready. "I don't want her doing this," she said. "I don't like the risks."

"Evelyn, it's more risky if you go in her place," Deaton said.

 "But."

"Evelyn, listen to me. Your healing ability can bring them back if something goes wrong, but without you, if something goes wrong, this is all for nothing." Evelyn looked down at her feet. "Besides, the only two people who can bring you back from this are Allison and Derek, and even then, I'm not entirely sure you'll want to come back," Deaton said.

"What is that supposed to mean? Evelyn hissed.

"It means I've seen the way you've been acting lately, throwing yourself in danger without much care." Deaton said, "You don't care if you live or die. Some would even say you want to die. I think the only reason you haven't just given up and run straight at Deucalion or Gerard by now is because of Lexie."

"Fine, but if this goes wrong, I'm going for Allison. First," Evelyn snapped, unable to argue with the Druid, knowing he was correct. She was careless with her life, but until recently, she'd had very little to live for. Deaton nodded, knowing Evelyn cared for the other teens, but Allison was her sister and would always be her first priority.

Evelyn rushed to Allison as she rose out of the water, not at all listening to what they were saying. She quickly wrapped a towel around her as the others wrapped towels around Scott and Stiles.

Evelyn followed Ethan and Lydia into the loft. She stood back as Ethan explained the threat, already knowing what Kali would do. "How do you know I'm going to lose?" Derek asked.

"I don't," Peter said, "but I bet she does." He took a step towards Lydia. Evelyn moved quickly, placing herself between Peter and Lydia, instinctively protecting the younger girl. Peter smirked, recognizing her action for what it was: a bond developing between her and Lydia.

"What do you feel?" Derek asked softly.

"I feel like I'm standing in a graveyard," Lydia said.

Evelyn followed Derek and Cora out of the loft, watching as they got in Derek's car. "I'm not going to be able to convince you to come with us, am I?" Derek asked.

"Nope," Evelyn said. "I have to join the others at the point. I'll see you later." Derek reached out, grabbing her hand. "I promise," Evelyn whispered, pulling away. She turned, hopped on her bike, and rode away; they had planned for Evelyn to meet Scott at the distillery while the others saved the parents. Evelyn would provide an extra push in case Deucalion turned on them after defeating Jennifer. She had fought Deucalion before and was prepared to do so again, although she hoped he would see the truth.

Evelyn pulled up to the distillery, seeing Scott and Deucalion outside. She closed her eyes, muttering a silent prayer that her father and sister were safe and would survive this, that the others would live as well. She nodded to Scott, coming to stand next to him. They waited. Evelyn watched the fog, her heart pounding. She froze as she saw Derek emerge. "What are you doing?" Scott asked. Deucalion said something, but Evelyn didn't hear him. The blood was rushing in her ears, panic and betrayal filling her. The person she thought she could always trust now stood opposite her in a fight. Deucalion began to fight Derek, easily beating him and Jennifer. He threw Derek aside. Picking up Jennifer, he demanded that Scott kill her. Deucalion roared, making Scott change.

 "Now kill her," he said.

"No!" Evelyn shouted, stepping closer to Derek. Deucalion started to force Scott, but Evelyn stayed put, remembering the plan.

"Deucalion isn't always blind," she heard Scott say. Evelyn quickly covered her eyes, ducking. She heard the sound of flash arrow heads exploding, and then the world darkened. Evelyn opened her eyes to see the eclipse had started. She rushed to Derek. "You're not a killer," she whispered as she helped him to his feet. Jennifer reappeared out of the fog, downing Deucalion and smashing his head into the ground. Derek shoved Evelyn behind him.

"Jennifer!" He shouted. "He doesn't know. He doesn't know the cost you paid." Evelyn watched as Jennifer healed Deucalion. Falling to the ground as she tried to kill him again since she was too weak, Derek caught her. "Healing him made you weak like healing Cora did to me," he said.

 "Then kill him," Jennifer begged.

"No, like my mother said, we're predators, but we don't have to be killers." Jennifer shoved Derek, lunging forward at him.

"Derek!" Evelyn cried. She ran forward, but Jennifer was too quick. She used the little bit of power she had to send the hunter flying. Evelyn crashed into the wooden palettes, the wood slicing into her back and opening up her delicate skin from recently healed injuries. As the moon came back into view, Derek shoved Jennifer off as Evelyn faded in and out of consciousness, the pain dampening her senses. Suddenly, the pain lessened. Evelyn looked up to see Derek there, his arms wrapped around her. He was slowly taking her pain. Evelyn didn't have the energy to fight back. She usually hated it when he did that. It reminded her just how vulnerable she really was. She just laid her head back against his chest, watching as Scott broke the seal, becoming an alpha.
