As Mateo Herrera, was tired. He just got done with his shift at the Local Wawa. Mateo was rather introverted, he was tired of people, not so tired, like he wanted to sleep. He needed to recharge his social battery. So he decided to stroll through Valero Park in Bear, Delaware.
As he was walking his keen senses alerted him to a disturbance nearby. With each step, the sound of struggling and distress grew louder, drawing him closer to the source.
Rounding a corner, Mateo's heart sank as he witnessed an old man being accosted by a group of aggressors. The muggers towered over their vulnerable target, demanding his valuables with menacing intent.
A surge of adrenaline coursed through Mateo's veins as he recognized the urgency of the situation. Without a moment's hesitation, he went to intervene.
In an instant, his reflexes sharpened and he leaped into action, charging towards the assailants with unwavering determination.
The muggers were taken aback by the sudden appearance of this fearless man. The presence radiated confidence, his movements a testament to his formidable skills.
With a series of strikes, Mateo swiftly incapacitated the attackers, disarming them and rendering them unable to cause harm. His purpose was clear—to protect the innocent and ensure justice prevailed. That's what Mateo's mom would've loved to see in her son.
As the muggers retreated, Mateo turned his attention to the elderly man, who stood trembling but relieved. Gently approaching him, Mateo reassured him that he was safe now, offering a comforting presence in the aftermath of the harrowing ordeal. Little did he know, those muggers weren't real. Wang Fu, was looking for the next holder of the Black Cat Miraculous.
Though it was staged, Fu's eyes filled with gratitude as he thanked the young man for his heroic intervention. The weight of fear and vulnerability lifted from his shoulders, replaced by a renewed sense of hope and faith in humanity. Finally Fu would have a new hero. The Ladybug and Black Cat Holder would be the new heroes for the upcoming century.
As Mateo made his way home, his mind swirled with a mixture of emotions. The weight of the recent encounter now rested upon his shoulders tugged at his thoughts, leaving him feeling weary. Would he have to intervene with more mugging in the future? Or would this be a one off thing. He yearned for the solace and familiarity of his own space, where he could find a moment of respite.
Entering his apartment, Mateo closed the door behind him, shutting out the outside world for a brief moment. The quiet of the familiar surroundings embraced him, offering a sense of comfort amidst the chaos he had just experienced.
"Finally, alone time," he thought to himself. At that same moment he thought that he got a call from his Tía. He declined the call. Mateo loved his Aunt, after all, she was the reason he could live on his own, and move to the US, but he couldn't be bothered to talk to anyone. He wanted alone time.
"I'll call her back later."
Sinking into a cozy armchair, Mateo allowed himself to decompress. He closed his eyes, taking deep breaths to steady his racing heart. It was in these moments of solitude that he found clarity and strength to navigate the challenges that lay ahead.
As Mateo reflected on the events that led him to this point, his thoughts drifted to the fateful encounter where he had saved someone from being mugged. He couldn't shake the weight of what just happened, but he also couldn't deny the surge of adrenaline and purpose that had coursed through his veins.
In that moment, Mateo's gaze fell upon the small, intricately designed box. It rested on a nearby table.
"Maybe Tía left this here... hmm."
