The weather wasn't as nice as she had imagined once June came around Seoul. The wet pavement would decorate the city streets almost regularly, forcing the students to bring an umbrella everyday to school. From afar, she could see the exact foggy windows of her favorite convenience store every morning.
Her school's route, in which the family's driver would always take, passes the store situated in a small street. Its surroundings are filled with cafes and random shops. But what made her heart wrenches in hurt, was that it had always shone ever so dimly in her eyes.
She understands how strategic the location is, seeing that there is a university just a couple of walks from it. Not to mention that it's in the middle of a street full of cafes. Though how come she's never seen it being busy with customers?
"Miss Haeyoung?" Called her driver, driving through the bright green light.
The girl quickly shifts her attention to the driver, her eyes which were so tense from watching the sad shop has now soften, seeing the lovely driver's wrinkled smile through the rear mirror.
It sure would look and feels weird to have a 50 year old man treating a teenager as if she's higher than him, but it has been a habit done for too long that neither of them thought of it abnormal anymore.
"Yes Mr. Baek?" She answered, adjusting her seat.
The man begin to cough lightly before continuing, "is it the store again?"
The question put a skip of a heart beat on Haeyoung's chest. She had never told him any of it. Nor does she feels her actions described what she had been thinking.
"The store?" She acts clueless, trying to make sure what she heard was right.
"Yes. You always tilt your head to the side when we go through this street Miss," smiles the man.
Haeyoung quickly realizes that he had already known for a long time. She should've known; he's always been the most observant than the rest of the servants. Her voice came to a halt as she was confused on what to say. Only the sound of cars driving by and the rain hitting the glass window was heard.
Mr. Baek glared through the mirror one more time to make sure he wasn't going to cut what the girl's about to say. Once he knows it was just complete silence, he starts to comfort the girl, "The store had always been like that Miss. No need to worry,"
Their eyes met and she knows he was sincere. She lets out a sigh before nodding, "yeah... I know.."
Even if I want to help, she will find out.. thought the girl to herself.
As her eyes flickers towards the window, she watches the never-ending wet road and tall skyscrapers they were passing. In her heard, plays the exact words from her mother of the discussion they would always have after she had done something wrong
It was a warning message to be exact.
"We are different than those merely ordinary people Haeyoung! Know that you will be inheriting this company. The one your father had built over his own blood, sweat, and tears! So I would expect you to understand the risks of your interactions with them."
She was only ten when her mother first reassured that she must understand those facts. She had helped one of the servant's child when he fell out of his bike. It was only then she realized how much of an obsession her mother has over ranks, titles, money, and fame.
