PRETTY SMILE

08. JEALOUS

The party continued with ease. Molly spent the next three hours, dancing with her friends in the living room, playing pool with her brother in the basement, and drinking a lot.

By the time it hit 3 AM, the party was finally dying and people were heading home. Rick had told Molly to start getting ready to go home, but first Molly had to search the entire house to find Tessa who she hadn't seen in the past hour. Molly was sober enough that she could walk around the house without stumbling over each foot, so she made her way around the house easily.

After searching the whole first floor of the large home, she made her way up to the second floor, searching the bedrooms with hesitancy. The first two bedrooms were completely empty, the third bedroom had a couple making out inside, and the bathroom was completely vacant.

Molly made her way back downstairs where her brother was waiting at the door. Rick was finally able to sober up at least to the point that he knew where he was and that he knew where to go.

"Tessa is a no-show, I have no fucking idea where she went!" said Molly with concern laced in her voice. She had to find Tessa, she could be in the middle of nowhere, stuck, drunk, and alone.

"Well, you better go find her! We have to be back home soon, before mom and dad wake up and realize that we're not home! Matt went home hours ago and if they wake up, he can keep up a good cover for us, but not for long!" Rick called out to Molly who had begun walking around the first floor of the house again, before going to the backyard to see if Tessa was out there.

She walked towards the kitchen and went to the back door that was connected to it.

Molly opened the back door of the house and looked through the screen door to find Tessa making out with some random guy on the swingset. She opened the door, letting the cold air clasp onto her. It made her shiver so instead of walking entirely outside, Molly took her two fingers, stuck them in her mouth, and whistled at them loudly.

Tessa, drunkenly, snapped her head towards the sound and so did the guy who looked confused, yet annoyed at whoever disturbed them.

"Tessa! Let's go! Rick's gonna leave without us!"

Tessa muttered something incoherently to Molly, before giving the boy a sloppy kiss on the mouth and running towards her best friends with her heels in her hand.

Molly helped Tessa up the back stairs which she stumbled upon, before grabbing her hand and leading her towards the front of the house where Rick was still waiting.

"Found her, let's go." Molly said, wiping her eyes and proceeding out the door with Tessa who was yawning behind her.

They began walking out of the house and down the front steps of the house where Rick had to help Tessa who continued to stumble over her feet.

Molly made it to the bottom with Tessa who Rick was still helping. Then, Rick began feeling his pant pockets before groaning.

"I left my wallet in the basement, I'll be back." He said until running back inside, letting the screen door slam behind him.

Molly groaned and let Tessa sit on the front steps which she gratefully did. Tessa began to doze off on the steps as Molly waited. She watched the neighborhood around her and how quiet and peaceful it seemed to be at this time of the night.

Then, that was when she noticed who was sitting on the curb.

Molly began walking towards him, letting her feet drag along the sidewalk. She approached him and tapped his shoulder.

Charlie looked behind at who tapped him, dazed and confused, yet once he noticed that it was Molly, he scoffed and looked away.

Molly noticed the sudden change of behavior and crossed her arms.

"Okay, then, if you want to be salty, go right ahead," said Molly who shook her head and began walking back to Tessa.

"I thought you liked me."

Molly stopped dead in her tracks and looked back at the boy on the curb. He had gotten up from where he was sitting and looking at her now. His cheeks were flushed, and that was when she noticed that he reeked of alcohol. He was plastered.

"What?" she asked him.

"I saw you with him, that guy in there, in the kitchen with you, you seemed to be pretty close," said Charlie with a sneer. He was most definitely drunk.

Molly shook her head and pointed back towards the house with a loud voice and wide eyes. "Freddie?" questioned Molly.

Charlie stared at her dead in the eyes, not letting the eye contact break. He was angry and he looked at her with the meanest death stare she had ever received in her life. If looks could kill, she'd be dead right that moment. "Yeah...him!"

"I can't believe you right now." She shook her head, raising her voice ever so slightly.

Charlie broke eye contact with a simple eye roll before walking away from Molly and down the street. Molly watched him walk the whole way, hearing his little mutters underneath his breath, until he turned the corner so she couldn't see him anymore.

Did he just confess his feelings for her?

Molly sighed, grabbed at her hair, and screamed on the top of her lungs in desperation. The scream was so loud that she had even woken up Tessa who had fallen asleep on the stairs of the house.

Rick came running out of the house, with a look of confusion scattered on his face. "What the fuck was that?!"

Molly looked at her brother, tears streaming down her face now. "I don't know!" she cried out, sniffling and wiping her tears.

Rick walked down the stairs, grabbing Tessa's upper arm and helping her up from her spot.

They walked towards Molly where Rick had lifted his arm, offering to put it over her shoulder. Molly accepted and went towards his side, crossing her arms in front of her chest to keep warm.

The trio began walking down the street towards their house, letting the cold October air wrap around them.
