Moe sat in the lab staring at all the files she had been sent to moderate. 563 files for next week. She wasn't even sure what week they were referring to. A lunar week, a solar, a menstrual week, a religious week or maybe they have customised weeks for the police force.
There was a knock on the door and she feel a dull numbness spread through her slowly. It was a feeling like... Dread. She dreaded who was on the other side of the door. She hoped it was Maya with a ton more paper work or Blue with his removed ambiguous attitude towards everything... except Blue is already in the room. She just hadn't noticed him. He fitted in with the inanimate objects too well
"Who's there." She say with false merriment.
"It's Lev." She slammed her head against the desk. Lev came in without permission smiling a crooked smile at her and placing a coffee down beside her.
"Your work stressing you out." He says sitting next to her uninvited.
"No it's not my work though I'm kinda busy writing up files." She nodded to the try to hint at to leave.
"Really. What do the files say Me."
"Nothing they haven't been written yet."
"Right. I got you coffee I don't know how you like it but..."
"I can't drink coffee."
"Oh sorry I should have asked you first."
"Yeah you know yesterday when you offered me tea and I told you I can only drink water. Well that also applies to coffee."
"Yea to be honest I just wanted an excuse to talk."
"Well..." she was grasping for a way to tell him about her spouse when Lady Beowulf bursts in unannounced breaking the hinges of the door... Moe jumped when she saw her. She still hadn't gotten used to Lady Beowulf. It was the hooded-cloak made of the fur of 1000 dead animals that she insisted on wearing constantly that made Moe uneasy.
"Hey science girl your smart tell this prick about how there are mammals that lay eggs." She said pointing to Ross who was looking at the busted metal door then lady Beowulf then back at the reinforced bomb-proof titanium door. He noticed everyone looking at him expecting him to say something.
"Well doesn't having externally go against what it means to be a mammal." He mutters looking down at his shoes with a forced look of 'casual' disinterested.
"Well mammals are fertilised internally and produce milk but some mammals like platypuses, Echidnas, Swaroos and swallaby. Do lay eggs."
"Hybridised organisms don't count." Ross muttered.
"What? Echidnas and platypuses aren't hybrids."
"Really I thought they were crossed between a beaver and a duck."
"No. just no" Moe sighs. Stuff like this had been happening for the last few sky-cycles since she got here. The heroes of this generation are spoilt brats and no one can punish them because there the heroes of this generation. They had been told since they were children they're destined for great things. Right now there is only Lev, Lady Beowulf and Ross but once there trained they'll 'recruit new heroes' (Who legally don't have a choice).
"Don't you have some love to be spreading love and harmony across the land or something Aphrodite?" Ross says absent minded focused his tablet probably trying to crack the police firewall to prove how weak the police really are.
"His name is Lev and you should address him so." Beowulf says sternly. Lev just chuckles blowing it off.
"It is fine Aphrodite was a great woman I'm honoured to be her... successor."
