(SONG: Jane Doe- NeverShoutNever)
Coming out of school, I drove to Barnes and Noble in my Chevy to get the book that all of my friends had told me about. They always said that it was one of the best books they've ever read. So by their opinions, I thought that it actually might be good.
Money had been tight, because I had recently been fired from my job. I got so upset because my boss had replaced me with someone that he thought was better. But my mum had given me twenty-five dollars for whatever I wanted to buy, which in my case, was a book.
Walking into the the store, swinging my hobo bag around, I saw a curly haired boy reading a novel in the corner. He was curled up in his chair, knees pressed against his chest and eye balling his book. He was wearing dark jeans with a dark gray V neck and white converse. He wasn't wearing a heavy coat like I was, but a black blazer despite the cold.
While I looked for my book, I noticed him looking at me so I got nervous and shuffled along behind the bookshelf. I couldn't seem to find the book that I was looking for so I asked an employee where I might find it. She pointed to where the book was so I headed towards the area until I noticed that that's where the fuzzy headed boy was sitting. I stood there, too shy to go near him. He snickered and went back to reading. I really wanted my book so I walked over to go get it.
As I was standing next to him scanning the bookshelf, he said, "Hi," giving me a friendly smile. I looked down at him and said hi back. The boy asked, "What book are you looking for?" so I told him. He said, "oh.." and looked at the cover of his book, "you mean this one?" he said with a devilish smile.
"Yeah.." I said.
"Here you go, love," he said handing me the book.
"Thank you," I said looking around nervously.
He stood out of his chair and said, "Hi, I'm Harry."
"Hi, I'm Addison," I answered.
"That's a beautiful name," he said smiling revealing his dimples. Seeing them, I couldn't help but smile too. Harry blushed, now knowing that I, too, had dimples.
"Would you like to sit down? I'm not doing anything, so we can hang out for a while."
"Sure." I pulled the chair out and sat down and a couple seconds later, Harry sat too.
"So what brought you here?" Harry asked.
"Well, all of my friends say that this book is really good", I said, holding the novel up for him to see. "That it's one of the best books they've read, so I wanted to see if it was the same for me."
"Yes, The Odyssey is very good. I think you'll enjoy it", Harry said with his cute tilted smile. I smiled back, staring at his dimples and his perfectly pink lips.
"So", I began. "Why are you reading all off in the corner?" Harry blushed.
"Because I don't want to be disturbed by a bunch of screaming girls", he joked. "But you don't seem like you'll freak out, so that's a good thing."
"Yeah." Then I quickly added, "I mean, you're great and very good singer but I just don't fangirl over stuff like that", I admitted.
"That's nice to know", Harry said. "I very much respect that."
After forty-five minutes of talking, Harry started to stare at me. His eyes looked so green and romantic. No wonder lady Directioners said that he explodes ovaries.
I began to stare back at him back. After several seconds, Harry whipped out a couple bills and slammed it on the table in front of us. I realized that it had become a staring contest. I matched his five pounds and put it on the table on top of his. Harry looked at it, blinked, and looked back at me. "You just made the biggest mistake of your life."
I laughed and said, "One, Two, Three.. Start."
We stared at each other for what seemed like forever. Which I was completely fine with because the longer I kept my eyes open, the longer I got to look into his beautiful eyes. But I ended up blinking.
"Yes!" he shouted. "I'll take that", he said, snatching the money off the table.
"Well played, Harry. Well played." I said, crossing my arms and sitting back in my chair. He grinned.
"I warned you, Addy. You're no match for the amazing Hazza!" I rolled my eyes and Harry laughed humorously.
There was a buzz coming from Harry's pocket. He took out his phone and checked it. After a moment of silence, Harry put his phone on the table. "I've got to go", he said, disappointed. I must have looked extremely sad because what Harry did next really surprised me.
Harry reached across the table and set his hands in front of me. I rested my hands on his, mine looking tiny in comparison. He looked at our hands and then looked at me with his beautiful green eyes; I felt like I couldn't breath. He opened his mouth and began to say these words: "Would you like to-" I melted in my chair. "-go on a date tonight?"
"Yes", was all I could say.
"Lend me your phone?"
I took out my phone and handed it to him. He gave me his too, to put in my number. He typed in his number and set it to say "Haz". I programmed my number to say "Addy", the nickname he had given me.
When we gave each other our phones back, he said, "Is seven alright?"
"Yeah", I said, still not being able to breath.
"I'll meet you here", he whispered.
"Okay", I whispered back. He stood up, walked over to my seat and kissed my cheek. He left his lips there for a few seconds and then walked out of the book store. I put my phone back in my coat pocket and felt a bit of paper. I took it out an looked at it. My five pounds.
