Conor turned and gave Cayden a smug look. "And you actually thought that she would pick you over me. You have a lot to learn boy. First lesson I suggest that you learn is staying away from your alpha's mate."
Cayden growled at Connor. "You are not my alpha. You are a pathetic excuse for a man who goes around threatening people to get what you want. Shoot, who goes around threatening people to get what they want? The only reason why Equin is agreeing to mate with you is because you are practically forcing her to do so. There is no love between the two of you."
"Cayden now would be a good time to shut your mouth and be grateful that you are practically off the hook. Don't keep antagonizing Connor anymore," John said in a stern voice.
Connor was about to take a step forward and teach the young man a lesson, but was stopped by Equin grabbing hold of his arm, getting on her tippy toes to whisper something in Connor's ear. Connor smirked while looking at Equin before turning his attention to Cayden. "As much as I would love to stand here and teach you a valuable lesson, I'm afraid I can't do that. I have much more pressing matters that need my attention. Don't you worry young pup. I will take good care of my woman. Afterall she's with a real man, who knows how to treat her like a queen." Connor then turned to Equin picking her up bridal style, carrying her away from John and Cayden.
Clara came out of the house as Connor was walking by the front door, carrying Equin.
"Equin dear, I thought you were going to stick around for lunch," Clara asked causing Connor to stop in his tracks. Connor turned to look at Clara.
"There has been a sudden change of plans. Thank you for having my mate over, but it's best that we head home now," Connor said.
Equin gave Clara a sad look. "I'm sorry for having to bail on having lunch with you so suddenly, Clara. But something has come up that I need to take care of alongside Connor. And it can't wait. I hope you're not mad at me. I don't think I can handle having two people mad at me right now."
"I'm not mad at you sweetheart. Your mate has needs that only you can fulfill. And if John is the other person who is mad at you, then I can have a stern talk with him after lunch. You know how grumpy that man can be if he doesn't get something in his empty stomach," Clara began.
"It's not John who is mad at me. It's Cayden. He's the one who is mad, because I'm allowing Connor to make all of my decisions for me. And Cayden isn't happy about it," Equin explained.
"Not that what he thinks or feels is important anyway. You need to worry about my needs now. You need to put your focus into us and the mating bond that we are going to create together," Connor said.
"Honey, why don't you leave John and I to talk to Cayden. He is after all new in town, and he doesn't quite understand the way that we do things here. Once John and I talk with Cayden, he will understand better. But right now, I think it would be best that you get a move on. You don't want to keep Connor waiting around any longer than he has to wait," Clara said.
Connor smirked at Clara. "You know Clara Tollerman, I think you are the only human that I think I can stand to be around. You seem to understand the way of wolves better than others around here."
"I have John to thank for that. I know you frown on wolves mating with people, but don't hold it against wolves who settled down with people like me. They can't help who they fall in love with," Clara tried to argue.
"Don't push your luck with me Clara. I could easily change my opinion about you. As for the wolves, who decided that it would be a good idea to settle down with a mortal, rather than wait to find another wolf. They didn't think about the consequences of what would happen by matting a human...ending up with a half breed wolf that only has half the strength, and doesn't have the ability to change. You lucked out with that one Clara. You didn't have any children of your own," Connor said.
