AUTHOR'S NOTE: This one is a bit longer than usual, and there's a bit of Xiao-related angst but nothing too bad. I didn't proof read this more than once so apologies if there's any mistakes, anyways, enjoy~
Zhongli was leaving work when Hu Tao (the director of the funeral parlor) ran over to him, tapping him on the shoulder.
"Mr. Zhongli?"
"Yes, Director Hu?"
"You received a letter from Snezhnaya," she said, pulling a letter from her pocket. Zhongli took it, the overwhelming scent of seafood, snow and ginger filled his nose. "I don't mean to be nosy, but who is this "Childe" fellow? Their handwriting is so bad the people at the post could barely tell it said your name on it."
Zhongli chuckled, patting Hu Tao on the head. "He's just an old friend of mine."
Hu Tao watched as he walked off, she smiled, I've never seen his face light up like that before.
Zhongli eagerly slit the top of the letter open and pulled out the paper inside. He brought it to his nose, breathing in the scent of him. Zhongli hadn't realized how much he had missed that smell.
Dear,
Mr. Zhongli
Hey! It's been a while hasn't it? I miss your deep voice telling me stories until I fall asleep. I miss your beautiful eyes. I miss your cute smile. I miss your fat ass and rock hard abs. Ahem, I'm visiting Liyue again soon so look out for me! I can't wait to see you, it's rather lonely here in Snezhnaya even with my siblings to keep me company. I miss the warmth of Liyue and the freedom to go outside and just enjoy the sun on my skin. I hope my family will be ok while I'm away. Tuecer always complains so much when I leave, insisting that he accompany me.
Anyways~ I'll be visiting very soon so hopefully I'll be seeing you soon!
Sincerely,
Childe
Zhongli chuckled to himself, Childe always was eager to visit Liyue even if it meant leaving his family for a bit. He cared a lot for his family and hated being away from them, always afraid of what might happen to them when he was gone.
The sun was setting by the time Zhongli reached his house, coating the whole world in a golden glow. Zhongli turned the knob of the door and entered, slowly taking off his shoes and putting them to the side. He spotted Xiao's shoes there as well, he's home early. He did a double take, noticing a third pair of shoes that seemed familiar but he couldn't put his finger on it.
"Xiao?" Zhongli called out but no one answered. He quietly headed over to Xiao's room and heard voices.
"No, put your fingers there...stop, stop, you're doing it wrong."
"Sorry! This is my first time after all!"
"Pfft, here, put your fingers here and blow on this part."
"Like this?"
Zhongli slammed the door open. "Xiao! What the fuck are you–"
Xiao glanced up, allarmed, a flute in his hands. Venti was sitting next to him, his fingers guiding Xiao's onto the keys. Venti raised an eyebrow as Zhongli tried to straighten himself out.
He cleared his throat. "Ahem, nice to see you Venti," he said curtly. Venti smirked, his hands still on Xiao's. Xiao looked rather annoyed, his yellow eyes flicking from Venti to Zhongli.
"Hi Dad, what seems to be the problem?" Xiao asked, tapping his foot on the floor impatiently.
"N-nothing! I, uh...Just wanted to see how you were doing, dinner will be ready in a bit," Zhongli said awkwardly, closing the door slowly as he left. Xiao and Venti stared at the door as they heard his footsteps receding into the kitchen.
