Steven sat there staring at the soft petals on the bright crimson coloured flower in his hands. He twirled the flower in his calloused fingers, reflecting on the past year.
He felt as though his life was not worth living without her, his one true love.
She had passed away of bowel cancer six months ago at this very bench, on the 16th of June 2002. Still to this day he came back here on the 16th of each month. Every. Single. Day he mourned her.
Though this evening it felt different. The mist was reflecting how he felt. He needed to start a new chapter of his life. He did not want to be a bystander anymore. He wanted to act, and this was the time he felt ready for it.
He set down the little flower, picked up his phone and made the call.
