Strange Ways

"May I safely assume that you haven't heard of the Word of God?" Peter stared right at Doctor Strange with confusion in his eyes. He even glanced at his surroundings, amazed about the man's magical prowess. He was making everyone not able to recognize him as Spider-Man. Which also made him realize that Stephen was also not recognized by the public to be the real Sorcerer Supreme. It confused him greatly, though he was definitely not going to look at this moment of knowledge as anything but a gift. He needed to know everything about what was happening, about how this world came to be.

Though he definitely could see that Strange was not fully concentrated on the conversation that he wanted to start to begin with. He knew that the food at Howard Johnson's was amazing, spectacular even, but the man had apparently been possessed by greed. He was eating left and right, already eating through his fourth burger. He only had a milkshake, not really in the mood to feed his own accelerated metabolism. His mind still reeled on the memories of not only what happened between himself and Kraven, but what happened with Natasha, Leeds and now Strange.

"I've heard about it, yeah...Some kind of Christian community in Michigan" He admitted, his mind remembering a few conversations from a couple of thugs. He didn't really know about it much and he didn't really investigate it after hearing it from them. He could only kick himself for his past mistakes on not investigating the topic. He groaned softly, which earned him a questioning glance from the doctor who was biting yet another mouthful of burger. He had to admit, never had he seen Stephen this desperate for food in forever. "Are you saying they're the reason the world went nuts?"

"No... Not remotely" Peter heard the immediate sigh coming from the doctor, which only made him confirm that this was definitely out of his paycheck. But he prepared himself, his mind quite open for any possibility of what may happen during their conversation. He needed to know, understand just what exactly was happening with the world around them. "It's an ancient book, thousands of years old" Peter blinked, definitely not expecting that kind of answer. Yet again, now thinking about it further, it made complete sense. The book was called 'The Word of God' which meant that it could hold not only the history of their world but also many powerful spells if Strange was worried about the book in the first place. "It has spells that enable anyone who has it to manipulate reality"

Peter almost face planted on the table, a soft groan of defeat. Things couldn't get any worse than they currently are. Something must have happened when Strange was defending the book, because he definitely knew that he wouldn't let anyone touch the book if it had that kind of power. Just thinking about what it could do to those around him had been nerve wrecking. He didn't want the people he cared for near the book and even he, himself, would stay as far away as he possibly could, but he couldn't do so at this moment. Not when the entire world was at stake, when those he cared for were in danger because of it.

"And you're saying someone has used it" Peter didn't ask, the arachnid hero was already seeing the effect of what tampering with 'The Word of God' has done to their reality. Villains now were heroes, heroes were now wanted cat thugs, and a good friend of his looked as old as Magneto did. Looking at the glare that the doctor gave him, made him stop his current thoughts. Even he knew when to stop, not really wanting to suffer through the consequences of an angered Stephen Strange. The last time he suffered from being tied up by his own webs. He was smarter than what he let people think.

"Obviously, wouldn't you say?" Peter did raise a brow at the answer. He was not asking a question, only restating a fact to make his mind realize the current danger of everything that was currently happening. Though he didn't say anything about it, realizing that Strange may be angered by what was really happening. This must be one of the worst things that Stephen could go through, a world where everything was not what they are used to know. So Peter stayed quiet, hearing and asking the questions that he really thought prudent at the moment.
