The heat of the July sun brings a sweltering wave down onto Essex.

Animals find shade under trees and bridges, kids run through sprinklers in front lawns, elders lounge in the pools in their backyards.

Genesis stands alone in an empty football by Essex High.

Well, not completely alone.

"You need to be able to detect people's location." Taehyung tells her as he stands across the field. "In the same way you're able to do it as a human using your senses, you need to do it as a vampire."

"Did you forget how much faster vampires are compared to humans?"

"They're faster and your senses are now more heightened. It balances."

"Not to mention that we're in the middle of an open football field."

"You need the open space, trust me. This is the best starting point."

"I can see you."

Taehyung starts walking the perimeter of the field and she watches him.

"Great. And if I had the ability to blend in with my surroundings, then what?" Taehyung disappears. "How would you keep track of me?" His voice is heard to the left of her.

"If it was pitch black," Genesis looks around as her vision dims. "How could you find me?" She spins as she hears Taehyung's voice right behind her.

"If we were in a crowded stadium," his voice amplifies, "filled with thousands of people, his voice multiplies and echoes through the field. "How would you find me, Genesis?"

She looks around, side to side, as she hears him everywhere.

"If I had the ability to take all of your senses from you, how would you track me then? Could you adapt fast enough to stay alive?"

Genesis yelps as she's flipped onto her back.

Taehyung stands above her as she falls into the ground. His hand is cradling her head as she stares up at him in shock.

"You'd be dead."

He lets her head go and it softly hits the ground. He stands up and takes a step back from her.

"You need to be faster." He speaks as she stands up. "You can hear me move, Genesis. We're fast, not silent. What wouldn't reach a human's ears until far too late, you can hear much sooner. You need to focus."
