~ Daryn ~
I peeled my eyes open, not wanting to look down from such a tall height, and my hands tightly clutched one of the monster's thick brown vines, refusing to let go.
Meanwhile, I could see that Zora's gaze was fixed upon me. She must've been crazy for trusting me to do something so dangerous as what I was doing.
My heart pounded heavily as I let go of the thick vine in my hand and instantly grabbed another one.
Beads of sweat rolled down my face as the vine swung close enough to the monster's chest, allowing me to finally let go of it.
Shit! I groaned as I felt my back hit the ground, and then rolled sideways in slight pain. My eyes popped open, and I pranced up on my feet again.
"I'm alive!"
I stumbled as I approached the bright crystal and seized it, not giving a fuck about the violent quakes which resulted from the monster's movement.
My heart pounded on hearing whiffing sounds, knowing exactly what next to expect. My legs trembled as I felt the thick vines beneath me starting to loosen bit by bit.
Suddenly, I felt the air rush past me as I plummeted from the dizzying heights.
I hit the ground, cushioned by a pile of withered vines and sprang myself up, letting out a grunt.
My gaze met with Zora's beaming smile.
"We did it", she said.
I almost spiralled out of my mind as my eyes became locked upon her pretty eyes, but her soft voice snapped me back to my senses.
"Yeah", I beamed back at her.
My eyes flinched as they were hit by a glint of yellow light from the crystal when I opened my palm.
My gaze switched to the ground on hearing the rustling sounds of dry vines and leaves. We moved backwards and my eyes widened as a few words were engraved on the ground, just like before.
'A home for the dead '
It was another clue.
A smirk crawled upon my face and I turned to Zora, knowing exactly what the clue meant. But before I could even speak, she cut in;
"It's a grave..."
I beamed at her, guessing that she must've read my mind.
"Yep...I-I think we have to bury the crystal", I added.
She nodded.
The ground felt rather cold as I bent to dig a little hole to bury the crystal.
Suddenly, we were hit by the bright flash of yellow light from the crystal, causing our eyes to flinch again as we paced backwards.
Our flinching gazes trailed alongside the bright streams of light which flowed from its main source.
Our legs quivered as the ground shook with a massive force. Loud rumbling sounds echoed throughout the forest, causing cold cold shivers of fear to zip down our spines.
I instantly pulled Zora into my arms and leaned over her, protecting her from the sudden bright explosion which erupted from the ground.
I felt a rush of emotions within as she latched herself unto me, and buried her face deep into my arms like a child.
My gaze swirled around, and I noticed that the environment around us began to warp.
I slowly took my hands off Zora, uncovering her from my protection. I noticed how she squinted immediately the blinding lights glinted upon us.
We found ourselves in the arena, amongst a few other couples as well.
"Thanks", she said. Her gaze was locked upon mine, and her face lit up with a brilliant smile.
"You're welcome". I stroked the nape of my neck while beaming at her.
Suddenly, our attention switched to the podium after a bright flash of light appeared - it was the dean.
His handsome face pulled into a smirk as he flicked his diamond sceptre, fixing everyone's ruined outfits.
"I always love keeping my students on their feet at all times"
"I apologize for interrupting your fun tonight, but this is a magical academy...so you should expect more of these kinds of tests from me"
His charming voice sounded as calm as ever, provoking a loud cheer from the audience.
"Anyways, enjoy your night", he beamed a smile.
Another flash of blinding white light hit everyone's eyes as he vanished from the podium.
'Cool', I smirked.
My gaze pierced through the crowd, scanning everyone's face in search of Daemon but I couldn't find him.
"Hmm...he must be having fun as well", I murmured under my breath.
I heard Zora's voice from behind me.
"Are you searching for someone?"
"Uh...yeah...but it's fine", I answered.
'I should ask her for another dance', I pondered.
I forced a brilliant smile to appear on my face, with an outstretched hand.
"Um...do you wanna dance again?", I requested.
"Yeah...I guess"
My heart skipped a beat as I took her soft palm in mine, allowing my gaze to savour her gorgeous appearance again.
We took a few steps into the dancefloor, stealing everyone else's attention.
I refused to take my sight off her pretty face while we both glided in uniform to the slow rhythm of the beautiful music.
All of me by John Legend and Lindsey Stirling.
Total silence engulfed my mind after the music came to a stop. We remained hooked together, staring deep into each other's eyes.
I couldn't help but notice how her pupils dilated while she stared into mine.
I wasn't thinking straight anymore as I gently wrapped my arm around her waist.
Her cheeks flashed red as leaned closer to her and parted her lips in a soft kiss.
