29 : childhood friends

“Soyoung, can you redoing my schedule because I need to leave now. I leave everything on you and please tell to our investors about this.” Jaeyun said as he puts a memo on the table.

“Sure, Mr Jake. Is there anything else I can do before you leave?” she asked and Jaeyun nodded, “make sure nobody stay at the office after working time for a few days. Thank you, Soyoung.”

After that, he left the office and heading somewhere which is hospital. He tried to calming down his heartbeat rate while driving. When Hana called her and told about their mom, he can't stay still.

“Mom suddenly faint! Please Jake, go to the hospital now!”

When he arrived at the hospital, he quickly went to the receptionist and asked about Mrs Sim. He went to the VIP room where they put his mom and walked inside without waiting any further.

He saw Hana sat next to the hospital bed while holding their mom's hand. Mrs Sim still in her deep sleep. Hana look at him with her teary eyes before stood up and went into Jaeyun's arms. He wrapped his arms around his sister's shoulder.

“Shh, mom will be fine. I promise you, Hana.” he caressed Hana's hair.

“She was fine when I met her yesterday. I told her to not worry about me staying at your penthouse. Maybe... maybe I'm the cause—”

“Nonsense, don't say such a thing! Things happen as what it should be, don't blaming yourself.” he interrupts with a strict voice.

Jaeyun decided to stay at the hospital for one night because Hana needs to attend her class tomorrow. He went to the cafeteria to get some foods because he left the office even before lunchtime.

He sat down at one bench near his mom's room, eating the bread he bought. Not realising someone is walking towards him with a bright smile on their face. When that person stopped in front of Jaeyun, he look up and shocked.

“Diane Lee?”

“Jake Sim? I thought I was imagining things but it's really you! How are you, by the way?” the girl, Diane, took a sit next to him with her excited face.

“I miss you, Jake. I never heard about you after you left Brisbane, it almost three years, right?” she asked and Jaeyun slightly nodded.

Diane is his childhood friends. They went to the same school and lived in the same neighbourhood. Sometimes, they met at the church every weekend. Both of their parents are know each other too.

You can say, Diane is his first girl best friend he ever had because he's not a social butterfly. Diane's character really fit with Jaeyun's and most of people thought they are partners. But Jaeyun strictly against it.

He only sees Diane as a good friend.

Only that, nothing much.

“I think, I'm fine here. I became really busy after starting my company with Sunghoon. Do you still remember him?” he asked and Diane awkwardly nodded, how come she forgets about Park Sunghoon?

That boy used to like her.

But she rejected him.

Because of Jaeyun.

“Anywho, what are you doing here at this hour? Are you not feeling well?” Diane asked and Jaeyun let out a sigh. “My mom, she suddenly passed out and doctor said she needs to stay here for awhile.”

Jaeyun turned his head, “and you, what are you doing here all of sudden?”

Diane chuckled while showing off her coat with her name on it. A sign that she's working here as a doctor too and Jaeyun gives her a proud smile. It's always been Diane's dream to become a doctor.

“Congrats, Diane. Your dream is finally come true. It's really suits you, the coat, looks so cool with your name one it.” Diane's cheeks turned into pinkish shades when she heard that compliment.

“Thank you, Jakey! Can I ask you something? Perhaps, you have a—” her words were stopped because Jaeyun's phone suddenly ringing.

Jaeyun look at the caller and it's Jungwon. He ignores it first but Jungwon send a few files in his email. He look at Diane with a little smile.

“I will excused myself first. It's so nice to meet you again, Diane. Good luck with your career.” he walked away after bidding a few good bye.

Diane sighed.

He is changing.
