Summary: you pick cherries together
---------------------------------------------It's summertime. The trees bear fruit, as does the cherry tree in your garden.
Kurt is in the living room working on his music. Normally you would ask him to help you pick the fruit, but you decide to let him continue working.
You stand on a small ladder. A bucket is stuck between your body and the cold metal. It is already filled with the small red fruits.
Suddenly, long fingers clasp your ankles, holding you in place. "Why didn't you tell me you were picking cherries today?"
You look over your shoulder. "I didn't want to bother you." You lean forward and grab a pair of dark red cherries, sliding them into the bucket. "But you can help if you want."
"A little distraction isn't bad." He gently releases your ankles. "Be careful not to fall."
You hear Kurt's footsteps slowly moving away through the grass. Shortly after, he's standing next to you. His gaze is directed into the treetop.
"There are many hanging over there." You point to a branch.
He sets up his ladder under it and climbs up. He starts picking the red gifts of nature. Your buckets fill up more and more.
"We've never had this many cherries before, have we?" Kurt asks you.
"This year it's really a lot." You smile at him. "You know, I think it's nice that we do this together every year."
Kurt drops a cherry into his bucket with a plop. "I love it. It allows us to spend more time together. And it takes my mind off anything unimportant." He smiles over at you.
You smile back and stretch out, stretching to a branch. "Want me to bake a cherry pie?"
"I love your cherry pie."
You laugh. "I guess that means yes." He nods in response. "Have you tried one yet? They taste like heaven."
Kurt reaches into his bucket and pops a cherry into his mouth. He closes his eyes with relish. "Better than usual. They're great."
You continue picking in silence. You keep looking up at Kurt, who is shoving individual cherries into his mouth.
"So here's no more fruit." You look at the tree top above your head. "I'll slide closer to you if that's okay?"
"Absolutely. Come to me."
You get off the ladder and put it next to Kurt. After that, you stand at the same height as him. "Can I have a kiss for strength?" You ask sheepishly.
Kurt leans toward you, his hand resting on your jaw. He pecks your lips. "Thank you."
Your gaze drops to his bucket. "There's a lot in there already. Almost more than mine."
Kurt shrugs. "I'm just talented."
You start laughing, he's so sure of himself. He grins.
Together you pick until dark. The next day, you bake the cherry pie. You invite Krist and Dave over and spend the day together.
