"Please just find him." Christy sobbed. Earlier that day, she called Christy in for the details of her latest case. She is the ex-wife of Mark Gaunt, the missing businessperson. "We are still friends even after the divorce and I come to visit him and Damien every week and we talk on social media sometimes..." I take a mental note of this and realize that another person has been brought up, Damien. "Who is Damien?" I ask. "Oh, he's my son... He had a choice on who he wanted to stay with, and he chose his dad." She replied. There was an awkward silence as we both sipped our tae. I tell her I need to talk to him too as he is also a suspect. After she leaves, I make an investigation board on everything I have as information.
The next day, I called in Damien to interrogate him. I clean the house and make tae. Ding. The doorbell rings and I answer it. A 6-foot man with a sharp jawline, brown eyes and black, overgrown and messy hair. Wearing a black varsity jacket and cargo pants was standing in front of me. I found myself staring at him for too long and shook my thoughts off. "Umm... Are you Damien Gaunt?" I asked quickly. He answers in a deep but soothing voice, "Yes, and are you, Iris Carter?" I nod in response. I let him in and got him a cup of tea. "So, your dad said nothing at all before his disappearance?" "Yes." I tried to read his expressions, but I couldn't. He masked everything up so well. "Can you tell me what had happened? From the beginning?" I asked him to understand from his point of view. "1 week ago, my father had visited my mother and then came back in a bad mood, I suspected him to not want to talk about it and after dinner he went to sleep, so I snuck out to go to a party and when I came back the next day, he wasn't there... It was a Sunday, so he didn't have work, so I called my mother to ask if he was there..." He trailed off and I gave him a sympathetic look. He looked down and said, "Don't give me that look, it was my fault... I should've stayed home..." "It's not your fault... Parties can be tempting to go to, and it's understandable." I say, trying to comfort him. "You would think different if it was your dad!" He snapped so suddenly that the whole room became silent. I mutter quietly enough for him to hear me, "I was an orphan... My mom and dad died in a car crash when I was 1 year old, so I never really got to know them". His features softened and looked at me gingerly. We sat there in an awkward silence until I said, "Anyways, this isn't a therapy session so let's get back to work." "I need you to search your house as part of my investigation." I say confidently, even though I will have to get a job as an officer to get a warrant, but this was way more important than a silly rivalry between the authorities.
After Damien left, I got back to update the investigation board. I need to get sleep before I go to the police station. I lay on my bed but for some reason I couldn't fall asleep. The only thing I have on my mind is Damien. I trust him even though I've only met him. I quickly shake my thoughts off and try and get sleep.
