He lifted his head and glanced around, noticing some other apprentices were gone and seeing a faint light beaming in from the outside cave entrance. He woke up late!
His sister felt him stir, and she looked up at him, her eyes a bit tired. "Hey, I was wondering when you would wake up." She sat up after Cinnamonpaw got up.
He swung his head to look at her and was about to respond but just then signed, "I um... I assume Penguinfeather told you what happened." His tail twitched slightly, but he wasn't annoyed, he felt bad now.
His ear flicked at the camp chatter outside of the apprentice cave. And she just nodded simply, she meowed quietly and just put her head to his. "I'm very sorry I didn't tell you myself, I just..." She sounded guilty now, her voice cracked as she was about to cry. "I just didn't know how to break the news, I was really devastated when I found out, as well."
Hearing those words hit him like a thousand badgers, all he felt was remorse now. He couldn't believe how selfish he was for disregarding others' feelings and focusing solely on himself. "And..." He touched his nose to hers and breathed out softly. "I apologize for how I acted yesterday it... it wasn't right."
Sunsetpaw just shushed him with her tail, her eyes watering, but she didn't burst out crying. "It wasn't right? It's understandable. Everyone, and I mean every one of us, takes harsh news differently."
He batted at her tail and then spoke. "But it was still selfish of me..." He looked down at the ground, feeling icy cold tears drip down his cheek and pelt the ground. His shuddering breath fogging up in the temperature. "I had... I had a dream and mom visited me.."
Sunsetpaw looked up suddenly, eyes wide, tears still formed at the corners. "S-she did? Oh, StarClan, that's amazing." She licked the bridge of his nose and closed her eyes, resting her chin on top of his head a little.
He purred a little, feeling warmness in his heart. His mom was right. He wasn't alone. He had his sister, and they shared a bond unlike any other.
He sniffled a little and then muttered. "I love you so much." And then nuzzled under her chin.
She purred and said it back, this special moment they shared brought them closer than he ever could've imagined.
After a few seconds, she licked his cheek and then sat down, looking at him thoughtfully. "Could you tell me more about this dream?''
He closed his eyes as he tried to remember, some details slipping from him. "There was our mom and... I remember waking up in the cave but it was empty and cold, and I saw a bright light from under the vines so I went towards it then it washed all over me, it felt warm and calming."
He sat down, tucking his tail and paws. "I was in a field and it didn't look like any ordinary field no it all had a blue-ish tint. Then suddenly a beautiful cat with stars on her pelt was next to me.
I was confused until she told me that she was our mom... like, I felt as if I knew her and could trust her. She showed me this way to this beautiful lake and when I ran I felt invincible and like I could fly."
His eyes opened and they gleamed with excitement, he explained the story in a way that Sunsetpaw could imagine it in her head slightly.
He got up and trotted around the cave, jumping into the air and then tripping like in his dream. He shook his head and looked toward his sister who seemed amused by his antics.
"I tripped like that and then we were at this lake, I saw my reflection and mom told me I wasn't alone and that I had you, and that the stars laid my path out and they'd always be with me."
The story seemed to get their mind off the sadder aspects and made them focus on something more positive, but in the back of Sunsetpaws mind, she still grieved and was still upset, but her brother made her feel better.
"That's all I can remember." He meowed, sitting in a nest and keeping his eyes on Sunsetpaw, she just looked back and blinked his love at him. "Well, thank you for telling me such an adventurous story. Just." She lowered her tone and glanced around, seeing the shadows under the vines disperse away.
"Keep this between us for now, I can't imagine how anyone else would react if they found out you had a dream like that." Cinnamonpaw laughed a little until he realized she was serious, he just gulped and then nodded. "I'll be quiet as a mouse scattering to get away from nasty cats."
"Ironic coming from a cat," she just looked at him and purred with amusement.
He just shrugged and his ear perked as he heard a cat climbing under the vines, clawing their way in as they were too big to fit. He turned around to see Peguinfeather then Blizzardstar as she crawled in after him. "You two," Blizzardstar meowed a firmly. "We need to talk about something important, right away."
Cinnamonpaw and Sunsetpaw looked at each other, he felt anxiety coursing through his body. What did they do?...
