"Divianna!" My mom called from the kitchen downstairs, she sounded frustrated. "What.." I groaned, rubbing my eyes from the bright sun. Quick steps were coming up the stairs and my mom popped her head in my room, "Get up Div, it's your first day at school and you can't be late." She said as the opened my blinds and flicked my lamp on. She turned around and headed out of my room, leaving my door open a crack.

I sighed, getting up and walking to the bathroom. I closed the door, used the bathroom and brushed my teeth. When I opened the door, Aubrey was standing in front of the door holding a single piece of moldy bread. She looked me dead in my eyes and slowly turned around, walking back down the stairs. I furrowed my eyebrows and watched her throw the bread on our brothers head. "Eww what is that!" He yelled, I couldn't see his face but I could imagine it. I laughed to myself and made my way back to my room, closing my door. I turned my light on and went over to my closet, looking at all of my clothes that hung in front of me. I looked through my shirts and picked a white rolling stones crop top. I then put on some plain denim jeans that were a little baggy. I grabbed some socks and closed my closet door, turning around and putting on my simple jewelry that I wear everyday. A silver cross necklace, multiple rings, and my silver hoop earrings.

I heard a small giggle come from my door, I turned around my little sister stood in my door frame with my socks on her hands. "Aubrey get out" I said, walking up to her and snatching my socks off of her hands. She put her hands by her sides and left my room still laughing a bit.
Once again, my door was left open. I didn't bother to close it since it would probably be opened again. I walked over to my vanity and sat down looking at myself in the mirror, examining my face. My dad used to always tell me how I was beautiful, he told me I was one of a kind. I sighed looking at a polaroid of him that was hanging on my mirror. "I miss you, dad." I mumbled, grabbing my brush and brushing through my hair.

I got a moisturizer and put it on my face, I then grabbed my eye lash curler. I curled my eyelashes and put on a light coat of mascara and some clear lip gloss on. I would put more makeup, but I don't know whether the school allows it or not, so today I won't do a lot. I grabbed one of my black hair ties and put it around my wrist. I turned off my light and walked downstairs grabbing myself a water bottle from the fridge and putting my backpack on my shoulder. Aubrey and mom were already in the car waiting, my mom drove a black BMW and the back window had stickers on it, mostly from Aubrey. My brother, Hayden, dropped out of high school to pursue his professional basketball player career. Hayden is the oldest child, and our mom always favorited him. Mom loved Aubrey too, but not nearly as much as she loved Hayden. But me, my mom never paid me much attention, it was always about Hayden or Aubrey. She only acknowledged me when I got a bad grade in school, or when she needed something. When my dad was still alive, he loved me so much, I was his favorite. He loved how I got my freckles from his mom, how I had natural blonde streaks in my brown hair. Most of all, he loved my personality, he would always tell me that I was strong and independent. He loved how I didn't let anyone boss me around, he was my source of confidence. Next week marks 3 years of him being gone, I still can't believe he really died.

"Divv, helloooo?" A voice said next to my window, bringing me back to reality. Aubrey was waiting at my rolled down window, we had arrived at the middle school to drop her off. "Oh sorry, I zoned out." I said laughing a bit, getting out of the car. "Yeah I noticed, you looked like a freak the whole way here!" she said giving me a hug. I rolled my eyes and pulled from the hug, looking down at her. "Ew, you're getting so big." I said, rubbing my fist on the top of her head. She smacked my hand and fixed her hair, "Bye mom, I love you." She said waving to our mom, she waved back and motioned for me to get back in the car. Aubrey smiled at me as she turned around, walking to the school. Aubrey was entering 7th grade, and I hated that. I hated that she wasn't my baby sister anymore, she was actually growing up.

I looked out the front window, looking at all the cars and buses lined up around the school. My mom pulled up to the sidewalk next to the school, looking at me. I gave her a fake smile as I grabbed my backpack from the floorboard and left the car. I didn't even bother looking back at the car, I knew she was already driving off. I put my thumbs in my butt pockets as I walked towards the entrance of the huge school. I heard a whistle from behind me, I turned around to see a boy with brown toothpaste looking hair with a group of other boys laughing. I rolled my eyes and turned around as I continued walking down the hall. I tried to find my way to the front office but since all of the labels were in German, I was a little lost.

Aubrey, my mom and I have been learning German for a few months so we could navigate Germany a bit better. I looked at every sign on each door making out a few letters to see what they say. "Mathematik ", "Englisch", "Wissenschaft", I sighed and clicked my tounge trying to see around the crowded halls. I then found a big brown sign above double doors that said "Vorder Buro" I smiled and walked in, an older lady gave me a kind smile, she then rolled her chair back and pulled out a file. "Hallo Liebling, wie heißt du?" She asked me, still smiling. I just looked at her, trying to make out what she said since I was still learning German. "Hallo, I uh- don't speak good German." I said, which gave her a puzzled look. "Ohh, are you Divianna Vhander?" The lady said with a heavy German accent. I gave her a small smile and nodded my head.

The lady had a name tag on her coat that said "Ms. Doris". She started looking through the file with my name on it, until she found a slip of paper. "Ahh" she said under her breath, "Here is your schedule darling, have a good day." Ms. Doris said, handing me the paper. I took it from her and walked out of the room, looking down at my paper. My first class is Math, so I looked for room 12, and made my way into the room. "Hi sir, is this Mr. Armond's class?" I asked looking down, folding my paper. I looked up to the whole class staring at me in silence, I looked around and smiled awkwardly. "Yes this is, what's your name dear?" He said with a kind smile. "Oh, I'm Divianna," I said quietly, he had a puzzled face. "Divianna Vhander? As in daughter of Shelby Vhander?" He said, raising an eyebrow. "Um yes, that's my mom." I said equally as confused as him. "Silly me, well go ahead and take a seat back there in front of Tom." He said pointing to a boy with blonde and brown dreads. Tom raised his hand looking me up and down, I walked to my seat and gave him a smile and took a seat.

The teacher continued his lesson, I leaned over to get my water bottle from the side pocket of my backpack. As I was about to take a sip, I felt a tap on the back of my chair. I turned around to Tom and he examined my face. "Hallo Hübsche, wie heißt du?" He said to me, looking down at my backpack. I knew he asked what my name was, but I couldn't tell what he said before that, the "Hübsche". I smiled at him and said "Divianna, you're Tom, right?" He made a funny face before nodding his head, "You are the new girl from America, aren't you." He said to me, with a slight German accent, but not nearly as much as the front lady. Has the word already spread? We aren't even an hour into the school day yet. "Yeah I am, how'd you know?" I asked him. "Oh nothing, Du bist einfach wirklich hübsch, ich bezweifle, dass du von hier bist, I guess I was right." He told me, with a slight smirk on his face. I once again, looked at him with a puzzled face. "Sorry, I didn't quite get that, could you say that again?" I asked him, he shook his head looking past me.

"It was nothing, truly."
