"Mom, you're alive?"

It can't be possible. This shouldn't be possible.

"Jameson,"  She speaks, her voice calm with a tinge of authority much like my Father's if not more imposing, "you've truly disappointed me."

"Jamie, that is not your mother." Hao steps in front of me. "What business do you have here, Wraith?"

She tilts her head, a teasing smirk on her lips.

"Hao Ramon, son of Hao-er. You're still alive and following my son's leadership I see."

Fear permeates the air as Hao moves into a defensive position.

"You've no right to speak my father's name, Witch. Especially after you killed him." Hao seethes, magic pooling at his hands.

She doesn't utter another word before a three magic projectiles spiral toward us. Hao's able to block most of the attack, but the debris creates a smoke screen around us.

I feel a hand around my throat and then I'm tossed aside, rolling against the dirt.

"Did your father teach you nothing?" She presses her heel to my throat, just enough pressure that any quick movement would drive it into my body.

"Mom," I say weakly, tears pooling in my eyes.

"Stand down, Katia!" She turns her head . "Let him go."

Dad.

"Husband," She says mockingly, "how quickly after my death did you decide to betray my wishes for our boy?"

"Phillip, do not allow her to mess with your mind. She is not your wife." Hao says, blood  spilling from his busted lip.

"On the contrary, I'm very much alive." She whips out a long jagged, the tip cutting into my flesh. "Now if all the pleasantries are done, I have a job to do."

Mustering all the power I can, I worm my magic around her and throw her aside.

She rolls toward the beacon, getting back to her feet quickly. A disgusted look turning over into a sick grin.

"How sweet of you to join us."

I feel a grip on my body and before I can register it I'm thrown against my father and my allies.

"Long time no see, Family."

No. Not him too.

Out steps Cartrite clad in a similar fit to Mom, wearing combat boots instead of heels and a naginata strapped to his back.

"Katia, destroy it!" He yells. "I'll deal with them."

Dad blocks the first strike, slinging his fist into his undead brother's jaw. Hao and Orion  come from either side of him and he handles them with ease. Dropping Orion with a single strategic punch and Hao with a powerful projectile.

Mom has a dark purple haze emitting from her body as she chants toward the beacon.

I throw a projectile to which she blocks without even face me. I make a move toward her only to feel a fist in my gut.

"Listen to your Mother when I tell you this." I look forward still seeing her at the beacon but also seeing her standing above me. "Never disturb a witch during a spell."

She kicks me in the face, the snap of my nose ringing loudly in my head.

I howl in pain cradling myself.

"Enough!" Dad yells, a burst of magic flowing around us, Mom and Cartrite stumbling back against it.

"Once again, you're too late, Brother." Cartrite says. He chants loudly, a large inky portal forming behind him and my mother. "We'll see you soon." They disappear into the black.
