Naree hesitated for a moment, then met his gaze. "And what do you see when you look at me?" she asked, her voice steady, but her heart racing.

He took a step closer, his gaze never wavering. "You don't look at me like that. You're not afraid of me."

Naree's breath caught in her throat. The connection between them, however fleeting, was undeniable. "I'm not here to judge you, Chit. I'm here to do my job. And right now, my job is to defend you," she replied, keeping her emotions in check.

For a moment, the tension between them was palpable. Then, Chit nodded slowly, a flicker of something—gratitude or perhaps understanding—passing through his eyes. "I won't make it easy for you," he warned quietly, his voice low but firm.

Naree didn't flinch. "I never expected it to be easy."

The days of the trial stretched on, and with each passing day, Naree found herself drawn deeper into Chit's world.
