Taehyung sat on the edge of his bed, glancing at the clock for what felt like the hundredth time. The sunlight streamed through the window, casting a warm glow across the room, but the excitement he had felt earlier in the day was now clouded with anticipation and a hint of anxiety. Today was his birthday, and all he could think about was Jennie, he was very excited to celebrate his first birthday with Jennie.

He had woken up early, heart racing with hope as he envisioned the sweet message she would send—something playful, maybe even a little teasing, just like their usual banter. He imagined her voice echoing in his mind, telling him how special he was, just as she always did.

As he waited, he picked up his phone, scrolling through his notifications. Friends and his fans had already started sending their birthday wishes, fan letters and what not but all he could think about was Jennie. He found himself staring at the chat screen, willing it to light up with her name.

Minutes turned into an hour, and he felt his heart sink a little more with each passing moment. He tried to distract himself with a few birthday calls, but his mind kept drifting back to her. " Where was she? Why hadn’t she texted yet?"

Finally, he could wait no longer. He typed a message to her, a simple " Hey, how are. Hope you’re having a good morning!” and hit send the text, hoping to drop a hint for her, feeling a mix of hope and anxiety swirl within him.

He put the phone down and tried to focus on getting ready, picking out a casual outfit for his birthday. But his thoughts kept returning to her. "What if she forgot?" The idea gnawed at him, and he shook his head, trying to dismiss it. She wouldn’t forget; she cared too much.

After what felt like an eternity, his phone buzzed, and he rushed to grab it, heart racing. But as he read her message, the excitement drained from his face.

Taehyung stared at his phone, the message he had just received lingering in the air like a sour note. “Hey, I’m really busy today. I’m going to a birthday party for a friend. Hope you have a great day!”

His heart sank, the excitement he had felt earlier fading away. Today was supposed to be special, not just because it was his birthday, but because he had hoped to share it with her. He had been counting on her message, her laughter, and her presence to make the day memorable.

He sat back on the couch, staring at the ceiling. He sighed heavily, his fingers hovering over his phone, tempted to send a reply but unsure of what to say.  "What could he possibly say that wouldn’t come off as needy or dramatic?"

A few minutes passed, and he found himself sulking, scrolling through social media, half-heartedly liking posts from friends and fans. He watched as others wished him a happy birthday, their messages flooded with excitement and warmth. Yet, all he could think about was how he had expected Jennie to be the one to reach out, to fill his day with her infectious energy.

Feeling a twinge of jealousy, he thought about her friend’s birthday party. " Why wasn’t he important enough to deserve her time today?"  The thought twisted in his stomach, and he hated how quickly he felt hurt and abandoned.

With a sigh, he tossed his phone onto the couch, letting his head fall back against the cushions. He felt childish for sulking over this, yet he couldn’t shake the disappointment. He had imagined the two of them together, sharing cake and laughter, teasing each other like they always did.
