First day of twelfth week, year 279 on the Short Count.

"Good evening, Baro," I said, noticing the movement of his eyelids and his greyish eyelashes flew open. He turned his head slightly and his eyes finally focused on me, confused. I moved closer to take a better look at him. "How are you feeling?"

"Like a happy shit," his weak voice broke from behind his lips.

I took his hand into mine. "You don't recognize me yet?"

He gripped it, afraid to slip out of my hold, and taking a pause to think before finally replying, "N-no."

"Let me fill you in on the details then." I freed myself from his grasp and got up from the bed. I looked at the man I'd been waiting for. I wanted to see him looking at me, hear him speak to me again. Like me, he seemed hesitant to believe in this reality. But it was real. This time it was. "You've slept for twelve years, Baro. During this time you didn't age; your body fitness was also preserved and you'll feel like new after the rehab. Eyu and Ore will get you back on your feet. Welcome aboard Gal Runagh, currently docked at the Falgh-Fargann port-side of Kan Diona."

"Rjgn—err—Falaha-rjg, was the death serum ineffective?"

His question made me smile. The guy was still as sharp.

"What are you talking about? I injected you with the biotic liquid our Kernels take their naps in. You'll get back to normal when the drug's effects wear off." The rush of Baro's emotions was amusing. Aa. I was going to have plenty of explaining to do. "To them it is merely life support, though."

"Wouldn't I get you into trouble if the word gets out?!"

"Don't worry. I've negotiated with all the sides involved. It was a long and tiresome debate, but we reached an agreement. No one will come after you."

It made me happy that he still cared about me, no matter what the situation he himself was in. That was why I felt about him the same way.
