Hawkings Indiana 1986

Tuesday.

Y/N POV.

I clean the table and sigh.

Yep, I have a job now.
Since my parents can't pay for college I decided I would pay for it myself.

"Umm you missed a spot" the man says pointing at the little drop of coffee on the table which he purposely spilt. I know cuz I saw him slurping down his drink like a dog.

I wipe it in anger making the table shake back and forth.

"Happy now?" I ask him.

He nods with a smile.
As I am just about to walk away he taps me.

Good thing he didn't pull me or I might try strangle him with the cloth in my hand.
I turn around forcing a smile.

"Can I have another coffee?" he asks.

"HEY TRICHOPHILIA BOY GET THIS GUY A FRESH COFFEE" I shout.

Steve comes out of the kitchen wearing a chef hat on his head.
"What does Trichophilia even mean?" he asks getting a cup for the coffee.

"I keep telling you dictionaries were made for a reason," I say with a smile.

He sighs and gives the man his cup.
The man goes to take a sip but realizes nothing is inside.

"It's empty" he says turning the cup upside down.

"Yeah because you haven't paid for your first drink" Steve says taking the cup back and pouring coffee inside.

"Is it code for like he's stupid or he's so good-looking?" he asks Desperate to know.
"Steve look it up in the dictionary it's not that hard" I say wiping another table.

He groans and goes to give the coffee to the man.

"Also don't worry it's only a funny joke between me and the whole world" I walk away smirking while Steve drinks the coffee in his hand making the man complain.

"Pay for the first drink or don't complain," Steve says walking away.

As soon as my shift was over I ran outside and inside my car.

It wasn't that good but it would have to do for now.
Someone knocks on the glass.

I turn to see Steve.

"Please just tell me what it means" he says biting his lip.
I lean forward.

"Steve it means... You need to use your brain and look up the word" I say pulling back and driving home.

I smirk as I reach my house and instead of sleeping I study since there is no point in me saving up for college if I cannot even pass high school.

The phone rings so I answer it and no it's not Steve or Robin or anyone I would love to talk to.
It's my boss telling me I have to work tomorrow night with Steve if I want a raise.

I groan and slam the phone down.

Of course, I am going but I also have a big test in two days and need a lot of rest.

I study hard and then sleep hoping that the customers all want an early night tomorrow so I can go home.

But of course, I should have known better and that it was never going to happen no matter how much I wished it to.

Steve POV.

I kept asking Robin what Trichophilia means... What does it mean?

I sigh.
Robin still won't tell me and when I ask she just laughs and doesn't stop laughing.

I do not even know what to do with my life anymore.

I haven't gone on a date in two months and Robin is growing a little distant since she's busy with school and work.

My phone rings and my boss asks if I can take a shift tomorrow night.

I agree since I have nothing better to do.
He tells me I will be doing it with Y/N and I get excited.

Maybe this is a chance for us to be friends.

You never liked me much and I always wondered why but tomorrow would be the day we could put our problems behind us and start afresh.

I grab my phone and started dialing your number.

You answered and said you were busy.

"Wait it's me, Steve," I say with a smile.
"What?" You say annoyed.

"Well I found out we are going to have a night shift together tomorrow just you and me so... I thought we should talk if we are going to spend so much time together"

"Uhh... No thanks," You say.

"Okay hold on at least let me pick you up and we can talk then" I say desperate to make friends with you.

"No leave me alone Steve," you say and hang up.

I slam the phone down angrily.
My parents weren't home to tell me to stop so I broke the phone.

"Shit shit shit" I say biting my lip.

I tried putting it back but it fell.

I groaned and went to my room knowing tomorrow I was going to be doomed.

Y/N POV.

Steve called asking to pick me up for work tomorrow.
I ended up hanging up since we just work together I mean we aren't friends.

I tried calling him back since I felt bad.

Maybe I could say yes to the ride or maybe I could talk to him for five minutes.

I called back five times and no answer.
I'm guessing he's upset with me now.

Well, he's just a shithead anyway so I do not care.

I slam down the phone and go to bed.
Oh Steve Harrington you're going to have a hard day at work tomorrow night.

Oh, you love it, don't you?
But it will get better ;)
