A/N: AHHHHHH! Hey beautiful people! I wanted this to come out on Halloweeen, but life has been busy as hell. Writing this book has been a slow process but I wanted to give y'all a sneak peek. Please leave me comments letting me know your thoughts, I'm so excited to put this out there! Without further ado, enjoy!

Warmth. I felt the heat of the fire I conjured as it spread across the lawn. I had dabbled in pyromancy in the past, but that was just lighting candles or the occasional fireplace. I had never tried to ignite a living thing.

I had no choice. The abomination in front of us had gnarled claws and sharp teeth that were lashing out at the three werewolves surrounding it. Its inhuman wails rang out in the night; I hoped none of the people in this neighborhood were seeing this scene taking place on Jamie's front lawn. As the scream pierced my ears, it shook me to my core and broke my concentration on the spell.

The flames dispersed, but the damage had been done. I could tell the monstrosity was weakened, and it knew it was outnumbered in this moment. Before any of us could advance, the creature took off running around the corner of the house towards the woods. Everything in my body was telling me that we couldn't just leave now, so I gave chase and yelled to the others, "Don't let it get away!"

I didn't get the chance to see who was following, but the thunderous sounds of running wolves came from behind me. Thank goodness I wouldn't be facing this alone. I wasn't going to just let this thing get to run off and hide just to terrorize this town another day. If I was going to be the Luminary one day, I had to put this town first.

The way this thing ran was like out of a horror movie, with its grotesque limbs running on all fours while looking somewhat like a human. Soon, I was overtaken on either side by two werewolves. The swift and agile black haired one on my right, and the bulkier auburn haired one on my left. I knew one was Michael, and I assumed the other to be Smitty. This, of course, meant that Eric was probably back with Ilya and Jamie, which would be an issue for later.

This monster wasn't as fast as it would've been due to its wounds, so the wolves actually started to gain on it. Eventually, they were at the heels of the creature as it started darting through the woods. It was taking everything in me to try to keep up when suddenly Michael cut around a tree and lept on the thing, catching it by surprise. Michael was able to take it to the ground, and Smitty jumped in to pin the thing down.

Even in its current state, it was thrashing out, trying to get a killing blow, but Smitty stood on its back with the arms pressed to the ground. Smitty held its neck in his mouth, I could see he was trying to put an end to this thing, but I knew that wouldn't be enough for a monstrosity like this. It still had some fight left in it.

Just as the monster wrestled one of its arms free and was about to reach up to strike Smitty, a voice rang out from a different part of the woods, "Confuto!"

A green mist surrounded the creature, its body began to stiffen, and it went into a sort of paralysis. I looked over to where the voice came from and saw Hanna. I was surprised to see her here, but I gladly toom the extra help. Her long black hair was tied up in a high ponytail, and she was wearing what looked like pajamas or lounge wear. With her hand held out in front of her, she was concentrating on this binding spell she had cast. "Hurry, I can't hold this forever!"

I ran closer and motioned for the wolf Smitty to jump off of it. He obligated once he realized what I was about to do. I stopped about 10 feet away from it and calmed my breathing to focus on the spell. Let's try this again.

I focused on the heat around me. Invisioning in my mind's eye the cleansing fire. Calling out to the forces of nature to let the burning light cast out the darkness inhabiting this creature. My heart began to race, and I felt adrenaline course through my veins, but I knew by now what that feeling was. It was magic, in it purest form.
