To say something different from what you mean to say

Aurora povAfter the whole mate fiasco my father reprimanded me for not responding to his mind link.
I must have missed it.
He gave me the whole speech about how being the pack doctor, I should be more careful.
I really should. I know it's my fault.
Most pack doctors have not actually attended medical school because our systems are quite different compared to humans so I have learnt everything from the previous pack doctor.
Before you ask me about it, No, I didn't mention it to anyone that I found my mate.
I mean how can I?
I mean I don't even know who it is.
But at least there was one highlight yesterday, Mr Popular Alpha agreed to our proposal with plan B.
My father said that after he gave the original proposal Mr Popular Alpha just stood there not answering and didn't look like he was listening so he took that as a no and suggested proposal B.
Proposal B was a mutual agreement that since our pack has better doctors and health care systems in general, we will help them with all the warriors that get injured during training and also provide them with free medical equipment.
In exchange for this, the Shadow Pack warriors will train us for the potential war.
It was the perfect agreement.
At least Mr Popular agreed, the terms and conditions don't matter.
My father talked with the beta of the Shadow Pack and they agreed that our pack warriors should come to the Shadow Pack along with our family.
We will be staying there for a week.
I was now unloading my suitcase as I stood in front of the pack house of the Shadow Pack.
I didn't even realise how quickly the time passed one second I was packing and the next we were here at the shadow pack.
My wolf had not stopped nagging me to forget all this and go find our mate.
But I can't just abandon my father like this.
I keep trying to convince myself that my mate wasn't ignoring me and that he must not have smelled me.
Otherwise, he would have come to find
me.Right?
Yes.
Of course.
I think.
Mostly.
Maybe.
"Hey, you ok?" William asks tapping me on the shoulder.
This snaps me out of my daze.
"Yeah. Why do you think that?"
"No, you just seem kinda lost since the ball. Everything ok na, ro-ro?" He says looking concerned.
Ro-ro is the word he uses for me when he does not want me to feel the need to lie.
But, I can't tell him.
I can't.
Not right now.
He has enough pressure, being the future alpha.
I can't burden him with some minor concerns about my mate.
I give him a small smile and nod.
We move towards the pack house with our warriors.
The Shadow Pack house is nothing like I had imagined.
I had imagined something more like a dungeon with only a few rooms to train. Everything would be coated in black giving it an ominous look.
But, it didn't.
The pack house had roof to floor windows and grey coloured walls with a few photo frames here and there.
Still minimalistic but much more than I had expected.
As soon I entered the pack house the same vanilla and sandalwood smell infiltrated my senses.
Mate, my wolf growled.
Mate?
Oh my god.
He is here.
My mate is here!
Yes!
This is the best thing that could've happened.
I wanted to jump out of joy but controlled myself.
I started to think back to Ball, only two people from this pack attended the Ball which was the Alpha and the Beta.
I doubt Kayden even has a mate.
He's inhumane from what I've heard.
So that means that the beta is my mate.
I'm happy don't get me wrong, but there's one problem, I don't know his name.
Suddenly a man entered with Brown hair and Blue eyes.
He had a jaw-dropping smile. He had a jawline that could glass. This brown curly sat on his head all messy and cute.
"Hi! I'm so sorry I was not there to greet you at the pack border, I was stuck up with some important work. I'm Jason, the Beta of the Shadow Pack. " He said glancing at us.
He smelled like vanilla but it was not as strong as I had expected and my wolf was not as happy about his arrival as I had expected.
Isn't he my mate?
If he was shouldn't he have already smelled me too?
Before I could dwell on that fact more my mother held my hand and took off towards the corner and sat me.
She gave me some paperwork related to our territory maintenance and told me to help her out because father would be busy here with the training.
I took the papers welcoming the distraction.
Do I have a mate or not?
