I've got my money on things going badly

Got a history of stories ending sadly

Still hoping that the fire won't burn me

Just one time

I've been left in the rain lost and pining

I'm trying hard not to look like I'm trying'

Cause every time I tried hard for love, it fell apart

I've gotten used to no one calling my phone

I've grown accustomed to sleeping alone

Alexandria Dias was a normal girl, as far as normal goes in a post-alien invasion world. She had grown up in the north of England, a byproduct of a one night stand between her parents, whom before her arrival, never intended to see each other again. She moved to London ready for university at 18, and her parents had gone travelling; finally able to explore the world and live their lives child free. However their journey was cut off three years later, just as Alex was about to graduate. Aliens had invaded in the Battle of New York, coincidentally not long after her parents had moved into Hell's Kitchen. She found out the day before she was meant to collect her diploma, in a crowded bar amongst her peers, drinking in celebration of their achievements. The small TV in the corner displaying creatures she'd never seen seemed unreal, until it wasn't. Within minutes all her socials flooded with posts and articles, and before she could process it all, she was ringing her mum. One call became two, until she couldn't think anymore.

Alex never made her graduation. Upon realising her parents were not going to answer, the only option was to get to New York and see they were fine. It took days to get there, with no flights entering or leaving New York directly, Alex spent all her savings on a flight to Toronto and a rental car. Pulling up to the address she was greeted with two flowers resting on the front step, which was enough to tell her they were no longer with her.

As the days went on, the bodies of her parents were found. Alex had to identify them at the morgue, seeing her parents unrecognisable to her last memory was shattering, and a sight that could never be erased. The picture of her parents smiling, waving goodbye to her at Christmas, was now replaced by their burnt remains. The house they not long ago bought was now Alexandrias; but with no income and no plan, she was forced to place it on the market for a smaller flat. She dropped everything, leaving her belongings in London, to search for her parents, and now that she had found them like that, she no longer knew what path to take with her life. She did know that she couldn't leave New York. The house they once shared back in England had been sold years ago, and with no other family, the right option seemed to be Hells Kitchen. There was nothing left of her parents apart from a few belongings, and the city in which they last were, where they bodies will forever stay.

Two years later, Alex was starting to move on and explore her paths for the future. She didn't feel comfortable enough yet to be able to get a full-time job, so she had started selling custom illustrations online alongside publishing her own comic series 'Thunder'. She was inspired by one of the new superheroes she had seen battling in the invasion, Thor. Thunder was a female superhero, with purple electric powers. The death of her parents had caused numerous nightmares to occur, and as she learnt to accept the loss, the nightmares had turned into inspiration. If only she had powers like Thunder, she knew she could have saved her parents lives.

Recently a new vigilante had been the talk of the town, known as the Devil of Hells Kitchen. In her comic series he had appeared a few times helping take down evil organisations . It intrigued her that there was some kind of anti hero right underneath her nose. She'd never ran into him during her time in New York, but she had a feeling that one day their paths might cross...
