It was just another long day at Kaiba Corp. The sun had barely set, signaling the end of another grueling shift when Mokuba, the younger brother, came up with an idea. He knew how much Seto loved to watch movies during their rare moments of downtime, so he decided to plan a movie night for them. With a grin, he crept into the kitchen and began to rummage through the cabinets, searching for something sweet to snack on. Just as he found a box of stale cookies, he heard a soft sigh escape from the living room. Curious, he peeked his head around the corner to find Seto staring listlessly at the television, seemingly lost in thought.
Something felt off. Mokuba had never seen his usually assertive and confident older brother look so distant and dejected. He hesitated for a moment, unsure if he should approach him, when a thought crossed his mind. Perhaps this movie night could be more than just a fun way to spend some quality time together. Maybe it could be an opportunity for Mokuba to get to the root of Seto's troubles and find out what was bothering him.
Taking a deep breath, Mokuba walked over to the couch and gently nudged his brother with his elbow. "Hey, Seto? You okay?" he asked softly, his voice tinged with concern. But before Seto could even muster a response, he snapped at Mokuba, his eyes narrowing. "Leave me alone, Mokuba. I just want to be alone." The words hung in the air like a heavy weight, causing Mokuba's heart to ache.
He wanted so badly to help his brother, but something told him that Seto wasn't ready to talk yet. With a sigh, he retreated to his room, feeling a knot forming in his stomach. As he lay on his bed, he couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to Seto's mood than just a bad day at work. But for now, all he could do was wait and hope that Seto would open up to him eventually.
Time passed slowly, and eventually, the television in Seto's room turned off. Mokuba heard his brother get up and head towards the kitchen. He took a deep breath, mustering up the courage to confront Seto once more. "Hey, Seto? You want to watch the movie in here or in the living room?" he called out, trying to sound casual. There was a brief pause before Seto finally replied, his voice gruffer than usual.
"The living room is fine."
With a small smile, Mokuba hurried back to the living room, setting up the projector and screen.
He carefully selected the movie, a classic Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters film that he knew Seto had always loved. As he waited for Seto to join him, he couldn't help but wonder what had been bothering his brother all day long. It was unlike him to be so distant and quiet--well, more than usual. Perhaps it was just stress from work, or maybe something else entirely.
When Seto finally entered the room, he took a seat on the couch opposite Mokuba without saying a word. Mokuba hesitated for a moment before pressing him. "So...do you mind if I ask what's been on your mind today?" He asked, keeping his tone light and conversational. There was another long pause before Seto finally looked up at him.
"It's my birthday tomorrow," he said, more than a hint of bitterness in his voice. "I just...I don't like birthdays, okay? Big parties...they're kinda overwhelming, y'know?" Mokuba was taken aback for a moment, completely forgetting his brother's special day, but he quickly nodded, understanding where his brother was coming from.
"Oh, well...um...if you want, we can make it a private party for just the two of us," Mokuba offered, trying to salvage the evening. "I could whip up a little something in the kitchen...if you want." Seto looked at him for a long moment, his expression softening slightly. Finally, he let out a small chuckle.
