BEEP BEEP BEEP! BEEP BEEP BEEP!
I groaned as I slammed my alarm shut. Ugh, can't one rest peacefully nowadays...I tried to fall back into La La Land but it was quite impossible to so when the thought of school lingered in the back of my mind.
I rolled out of bed with a huff. And when I say roll, I mean roll. My body hit the floor with a loud THUD. Considering how heavy and fat I was, that thud probably just woke up the whole town.
I got up, dusted myself off and headed to my bathroom to get ready. I did my usual routine and brushed my hair that settled just above my stomach, styling it into a simple braid. I put on some makeup here and there and tried to make myself look presentable. When I was satisfied with my appearance, I made some weird faces in the mirror and went to find something to wear.
Stepping inside my walk-in closet, I tried to find something to wear. I reached for my usual-some sort of top with a pair of jeans. Today, I went with a simple unbuttoned denim shirt with a white tank under and some dark skinny jeans. I know, I know...denim on denim...shush it's my style. I can rock it unlike any other. I completed my outfit with a pair of black flats.
After getting dressed, I went downstairs into the kitchen to find my mother serving breakfast. My older brother, Tristan, who was 20, sat at the table, eating his pancakes. My father sat across from him reading the daily paper. I quickly greeted my family good morning and took my seat next to Tristan.
"Morning big bro." Tristan nodded at me while continuing to chew his breakfast. A nice generous stack of pancakes was presented before me on a plate within seconds. I smiled, inhaling the aroma. "Thanks mom! These smell and look amazing, like always!"
My mother let out a hearty laugh and removing her apron, took her own plate of pancakes and sat down beside my father. We ate in silence with the occasional choking from Tristan and flipping of the newspaper. It was a nice, peaceful way to start off the day.
"So Ren, heard that loud thud this morning. Fall out of bed again?" Tristan smirked and I felt my cheeks heat up. "Shut up! And I didn't fall. The floor just looked like it needed a hug..." Tristan snickered. "Well next time, try to give a hug without waking up the whole West Coast. " I stuck my tongue out at him and continued to eat.
Our parents chuckled at our sibling banter. This was also another part of our daily routine. The two of us arguing back and forth over something small and stupid. But hey, that's family!
After we finished our breakfast, Tristan and I placed our dishes in the sink and headed out the door. We each had our own cars since we got our licenses. Tristan owned a Torch Red Corvette Stingray Z51, whereas I was the proud owner of a silver Lexus ES 350. The two cars were expensive but our parents were big time workers. My father was a physician, in fact, one of the best, and my mom was an A-list dentist. Yep, our family specialized in the medical field. And I guess they want us to follow their footsteps too.
My brother started his car and backed out of the driveway, me following after. I waved to him goodbye since his college was in the other direction. Tristan studied at Stanford. Yep. Smart brother. Oh the joy of being in such a prestigious family.
I still had a good half hour until school started so I took my time driving there. I turned up the radio and my jam instantly came on.
I drummed my fingers against the steering wheel as I drove, didn't want to start singing like crazy on the highway. That stuff should be saved for when I get home and am alone in my room.
About ten minutes later, I pulled into the school parking lot. I parked in my usual spot and got out of my car, making sure to close all windows and locked it. I slung my bag onto my shoulder and as I looked to my left, I saw my best friend, Maya.
Maya Alexandra Steinfield. My best friend since we were in diapers. We've been through thick and thin together. The inseparable pair.
"MORNING REN!" I was greeted with a big hug from Maya and a loud scream. I laughed and hugged her back. This, ladies and gentlemen, is the crazy, hyper 24/7 Maya. A great person to have as a friend.
We linked arms and skipped into the school like the 5-year olds we truly are. People stared but eh, who cares what others think right?
