K-pop group BTS says Pinoy fans have 'the most passionate energy

Visiting the country for the first time, K-pop hip hop group BTS, also called Bangtan Boys, did not expect the warm welcome of their Filipino fans when they arrived on Saturday, December 4.

Hundreds of their fans, also called as Army, reportedly waited at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 for a glimpse of BTS members V Kim Tae Hyung, Suga Min Yoon Gi, Kim Seok Jin, Jeon Jungkook, Rap Monster Kim Namjoon, Park Jimin, J Hope Jung Hoseok.

"We're just really happy. Because it's our very first time, we've never been to Philippines before, so I hope it will be a good memory for us," Rap Monster Namjoon told Yahoo Philippines in an interview on Saturday, December 6, before their "high touch" event for fans that day.

Passionate energy

BTS will hold the Manila leg of their "BTS 2014 Live Trilogy Episode II: The Red Bullet" concert tour in Mall of Asia Arena on Sunday, December 7.

"We've seen you (fans) in the airport and in the hotels, you have the most passionate energy. So we really expect to see that energy in our concert. We like to be able to show our performances to our fans. We're really happy," Rap Monster said.

During concerts and events, K-pop fans often come prepared with posters and light sticks. Singing along with the artists is also a trait of Pinoy fans.

Awards

"We're honored to having a concert here in the Philippines," Jin said.

The hip hop group just debuted in June 2013 with their songs "No More Dream" and "We Are Bulletproof Pt.2," but they have already earned a big fanbase in different countries.

They have also won awards, including Newcomer Award in Golden Disk awards, Best Rookie Award in Seoul Music Awards, and New Artist of the Year in Melon Music Awards.

'We represent the young'

What makes them different from other groups?

"We create our music and we're concerned about our own performances, like style and other stuff. It's kind of like, more real. It comes from our head and our heart," Rap Monster said.

"The other thing is, we always tell about the youth, teenagers, young energy, the 20s, so it also shows in our performances, it shows more strength and power to many people."

Change

The group has a busy schedule, but the members were in good spirits and cheerful mood when they met the press on Saturday.

They had a good laugh when asked who among them has changed the most since their debut.

"Jimin didn't really know how to make himself handsome (before)," Jin said in jest.

Rap Monster added, "The way he wears his clothes before was like terror for our eyes. Now he knows how to style and his style changed, more handsome now."

Other K-pop groups they idolize

Jungkook shared that they idolize fellow K-pop group Bigbang, especially members G-Dragon and Taeyang.

Among the K-pop artists they want to collaborate with in the future, Jungkook mentioned popular K-pop star IU.

When asked what else they want to accomplish as a group, Suga said, "We want to be the number one in Korea."

What they aspire to

They would also like to be the kind of group that upcoming acts would look up to one day.

"We got inspired by many other groups. Then we want to inspire other people and make them dreams come true and make them happy," Rap Monster said.

The BTS Manila concert is presented by Pulp Live World.
