Amanda Ripley awoke to the hum of the Torrens. She blinked slowly, the fluorescent light overhead blurry and disorientating. "Wh...where am I?" She managed to croak out, her voice rough from disuse.
"Ripley, you're awake." The voice was unmistakably Verlaine's. Amanda turned her head and saw the pilot standing beside her, relief etched on her face. "You've been out for quite a while. We were starting to worry."
Amanda tried to sit up but her body felt heavy. "Verlaine, the alien... it was on board. It is on board. We have to..."
Verlaine held up a hand. "We've checked the whole ship with micro-sensors of latest kind, Ripley. Top to bottom. There's no trace of them. Also, I took precautions. I tried to have some distance from Sevastopol at all times. So, there are no aliens here. Maybe it was just a nightmare... a very vivid one."
Amanda didn't respond. Yeah, that made some sense. Did she banged her ahead a bit before she was rescued? Maybe she was in that dreadful state between dreaming and hallucinating. Anyway, that was now behind her. She was too relieved to be on the Torrens, to be safe. As she lay there, trying to make sense of everything, the door slid open.
