It was uncomfortable but he knew better than to complain.
The cupboard under the stairs was always uncomfortable to sleep in, considering the fact that there was no mattress.
It didn't matter that the family of 9 were poor, but it was the fact that they couldn't bother purchasing one for him.
Daniel Park.
Orphaned at the age of one, whose parents presumably died in a vicious car accident, leaving him the only survivor with a lightning shaped scar. His cousin's often ridiculed him for it, but to him, it was interesting. An old relic from his past in which he forgot.
Another mentionable fact about Daniel was his looks.
Unlike the rest of his family (whom were alive and he actually met) he was the attractive, pretty one.
He had soft, kind eyes with plump red lips. His flawless skin that practically glowed and his slender figure that was the product of only receiving scraps from his cousin's. The bruises left from his cousin's brutality faded surprisingly quickly for such a weak looking child.
Daniel Park was the luckiest boy in the world, yet he was also the unluckiest.
His looks caused trouble for him and his family, whom became accustomed to the near kidnappings and predatory gazes people gave him. It was disgusting but he endured it. He had too.
The only reason his family kept him was to exploit his appearance for money. They didn't make him sell his body, but he was forced to beg and grovel to strangers for money. Who would dare say no to that face and those puppy eyes?
He hated it. He detested scamming those people but what choice did he have?
He wanted to run away but where would he go? He heard his uncle mention something like a brothel but he searched it up in a dictionary and that terrified him. He would never sell his body.
"Up boy!" Screeched David's mother, rapping on the door rapidly.
Daniel winced slightly before sitting up and groaned. His shoulders were killing him. Why didn't he get a mattress like the other cousin's, he could get the money for one if only the uncles and aunts didn't leach of it, saying something like "debt for taking him in.""Are you up yet?" Snapped the woman outside the door."It's an important day for my precious David so get ready for him!"
Oh right. David's birthday. Yay.
How joyous.
"I'm up don't worry Auntie Suzy." Daniel replied, peeling of a little spider of his foot. "I'll do prepare breakfast."
By the time he left his sad little room and entered the kitchen, Dylan, David, Sarah, the uncles and his grandma were all seated around the small table. They were crammed next to each other to save space but Daniel bit his lip when he saw two empty seats. For the aunts. No seat for him. Oh well, the floor looked pretty nice to sit on.
Maybe it was because he has forced to clean it everyday.
He busied himself frying bacon - David liked western food much more than the Korean food grandma and the adults enjoyed. He himself would have loved kimchijjigae(he tried it once with an old Korean woman who was quite fond of him and he loved the taste but couldn't afford to have it anymore.)
"Twenty-nine? That's way less than last year! Dylan got thirty-two!" David whined, reminding Daniel of a pig in a wig screeching. Approximately twenty-four presents were purchased with his own money that the family borrowed. He meant to spend it on books, as he was particularly interested in a new series about a young boy having two different bodies. It seemed pretty interesting.
