It was a Saturday afternoon in the middle of summer and the sun was basking down over the countryside. I was outside in the stables mucking out stalls. I looked down the aisle of 12 other dirty stables and sighed at the hard work ahead of me.
I was tall for my age of 16, my straight long brunette hair tumbled clumsily down my back, my deep ocean blue eyes and pale skin shone in the sunlight. I live on a farm in a small village in Kent, England. My mother Lucy Watts was an Equine Vet, and my father James Watts was a businessman. I always worked hard whether at school or at home, I rarely had any spare time as it was mostly made up of meeting up with friends and helping round the farm. I have a part-time job at the equine veterinary that my mum owned. We have 6 horses of our own and some that are from the clinic being rehabilitated. There are also four dogs, seven cats, three rabbits, six guinea pigs and many others.
I had just finished the last stall, and I let out a long sigh I looked around at my hard work and gave a look of satisfaction. Just then my mother shouted for me.
"Megan, dinners ready!"
"Coming," I replied.
I trudged to the back door of the big farmhouse. I steadied myself against the doorframe as I attempted to pull off my wellington boots. After what seemed like an eternity I managed to yank the boots off. I walked inside to the soft voice of my mother singing an Elton John song.
"Hey sweetheart, wash your hands in the sink while I dish up the dinner." said Mrs Watts.
"Ok mum," I replied as I drifted over to the sink.
Dinner it turned out was roast turkey and stuffing, with roast potatoes, purple sprouting, carrots and peas topped off with cranberry sauce and gravy. It was my favourite! I heard the door go which signalled that dad was back from his business meeting. He sat down in the chair next to me with a excited face.
"I have incredible news!" he spilled, "Our main company have expanded a new branch to L.A. America and the best part is... We are moving to America! We will still keep our house here and we will have to crate the animals to L.A. but it's a done deal."
I looked from mum to dad I shock. Mum by her face gave the expression that she had known about this for some time.
"How long until we move?" I asked
"In two weeks!" Dad replied
I was brought up never to raise my voice but the shock had thwarted my brain.
"Are you kidding me? How could you do this to me? We have a life here, friends, family a home why are you making us move?" I screamed
"I know but your mum and I made the decision that it would be better if we had a change of scenery." He said
"Well I'm not going!" I replied
"Yes you are young lady! Now go get changed out of those clothes, anyone would think we live in a hovel being around you." He replied
"Urrh! Your ruining my life!" I slammed the door behind me as I climbed the stairs anger rippled through me.
"It's not fair! Why do they never engage me in these conversations? Why am I always last to know and have no choice!" I cried as I flung myself on my bed. Why?!
