"God,  breathe, breathe," he was bouncing on his toes like he always does before his music hit. I knew better than to try to walk over, he needed this space to get into his own head so he can do what he does best out there. I sat kicking my feet from on top of a production bin. He was so cute. I was lucky to be here. He, he deserved to be here. I was still 17 and waiting for my day, tonight was his.

He looked over at me from across the room and smiled, I blew him a kiss. He caught it and held it to his chest. Then it was game time. I didn't move from in front of the monitor. I just watched as he bounced back and kept going. He had done this so many times with Swerve it just made sense to let their natural magic bleed onto TV. He hit the Clout Cutter and I walked away before the ref hit three. I was so proud of him and as much as I wanted to run to him, I had an adventure to plan.

Ry: I'm so proud of you, you don't even understand. Let's go on an adventure. I'll see you in an hour. 💛

nicky 🩵: :( i thought you'd be here, this better be a cool adventure. i'll see you then. be safe, baby.

An hour later the car was packed and I was ready to go. I pulled back into the stadium and waited for him to come running out with his bag in hand. He wore a black tshirt and the shell necklace he never took off, sweats and a pair of sneakers. The perfect fit for this adventure. The late summer air smelled sweet and like change as we drove through the back highways.
"I'm really proud of you," I reached over and squeezed his hand softly.
"I got worried when you weren't there after," he said with a small fake smile on his face.
"I wanted to be able to surprise you with this adventure." I reassured him.
"Where are we going by the way?"
     "The beach."
"Ryleigh, it's already almost dark."
     "And?"
"This is why I love you." He laughed and kissed my hand. He played DJ and we sang to everything from JUICE WRLD to the Frozen soundtrack. By 9:00 we had made it to our cabin.

Luckily the host had followed my instructions and decorated accordingly. Her son was a fan and I'd already slipped her a tshirt and an 8x10 of Nick's. "Where are we?" His smile was brighter than any sunset could ever hope to be.
"I got us a cabin for the next few days to celebrate and for you to remember who you are and how proud you should be of what you've done. We go home on Saturday and your mom is throwing you a tiny little thing in the BWWA." I shrugged. We both knew it would be anything but tiny.
"Ryleigh," the way he said my name made me float. Only Nick could get a reaction like that from me. He placed his hands on either side of my face and kissed me deeply. I jumped into his arms and he caught me, quickly shifting his hands to support my weight. "I don't deserve you," he smiled with our noses still touching.
"We can argue about who deserves what later, c'mon." I drug him inside. The living room had a projector instead of tv that took up most of the wall. There were board games, card games and everything else under the coffee table. The kitchen was stacked with his favorite snacks and I'd cook dinner for us every night. A hot tub, a big in ground pool and a shore meant Nick would be happy the entire time we were here.

The first night, he was so tired from Dynamite that we fell asleep playing uno in front of the TV. When I woke up, his head was resting softly on my shoulder. I wanted to move him, but I knew he needed his rest. I ran my hands through his hair and petted his back softly. "I could get used to this," I giggled to myself.
"You and me both," he grabbed me tight and wrapped his arms around my easier pressing me in close to him. He kissed me and pulled away smiling. "I'm sorry I fell asleep so early," he stretched and nestled his head back on my chest.
"You needed the sleepy, Nick," I ran my fingers through his hair. "What do you wanna do today?"
"Swim, honestly."
"Then let's go." We jumped out of bed and decided to hike the trail that ran to the bigger part of the lake. Our afternoon was spent cliff diving and talking about stuff we hadn't had time to talk about recently. We were walking hand in hand for the last part of the hike when he looked over, then back at his shoes, laughed and did it again. "What?" I smiled up at him.
"I just can't believe this is my life. I'm proud. I'm grateful. I'm amazed, honestly." He shook his head as he laughed again.
"Nick, this is what you born for. It's who you are."
"Not even that, Ry. Just...you, this, these moments with you, the life in general. I'm just floored."
"Nicky, you deserve all it and so much more. This is just your beginning."
"I love you. And I mean that. I don't mean just in this moment, I don't mean just right now...I mean forever. I love you." He leaned down and kissed me gently.
"I love you more," I smiled up at him slowly. He took my hand and we ran til our feet hit the shore and we jumped straight in.

All afternoon was spent diving and swimming, relaxing, reading, and just spending time together. As the sun slowly crept behind the clouds, we made our way back home. "I could get used to this. Me and you. A little house. All by ourselves." He wrapped his arms around me while I finished dinner.
"Soon, Nicky." I kissed his cheek.
"I know, no rush. I just love you and I cannot thank you enough for this amazing weekend."

That same cabin now has my name on the deed. We got married there three summers later. Those memories made with Nick the night after his first ever televised wins are ones we still cherish to this day.
