Nasir awoke to the heavy silence of the room, the weight of the sheets beside him reminding him of Camille's absence. He reached out, his fingers brushing against the cool, empty space where she should've been. The sound of water running in the bathroom broke through the stillness, pulling him from the fog of sleep.
Squinting against the morning sun beaming through the blinds, he pushed himself up, the reality of the day dawning on him.
Today was the reopening of Pynk Pyramids.
He exhaled slowly, the feeling of anticipation and anxiety swirling in his gut. The weeks leading up to this moment had been a whirlwind of chaos, early mornings and late nights spent making sure every detail was perfect. He was ready; at least, he needed to believe he was.
A few moments later, Camille emerged from the bathroom, wrapped tightly in a plush towel that hugged her curves. Her natural curls were still damp, dripping slightly as they framed her face. When she caught his eye, a small smile broke across her lips, her gaze warm and confident.
"Good morning, baby," she said, her voice soft yet steady.
"Morning..." he replied, watching as she made her way to the walk-in closet, pulling out a vibrant royal blue pantsuit. It hung against the neutral colors of the room, drawing his attention.
She laid the suit across the bed and went over to her vanity, sitting down to work on her hair. Nasir leaned back, observing her with a mix of admiration and concern. She was in her element, carefully sectioning off her curls and applying Aunt Jackie's 'Curl La La' curl-defining custard into her hair as if it were second nature.
"What you about to get into?" he asked, breaking the comfortable silence. The club didn't open until ten that night, leaving plenty of time for them to prep.
"Oh! I forgot to tell you," she started, not looking up from her task. "I have to meet a client to show them some houses, but I'll be back in time for the ribbon cutting."
