Some say that the universe is devoid of life. A vast void filled with emptiness and death. No one truly knows what lies beyond the shadow veil that surrounds us. Perhaps an entire civilization with immeasurable intelligence or just some kind of bacteria swimming in the vast ocean of a far away world. Monsters with unimaginable features too complex for the human mind to comprehend. Throughout this gargantuan plane of existence, planets, space debris and meteors are often seen from our small blue home. One such celestial object just appeared on the radar of a US military officer whose job was to survey the skies for unidentified threats to the country's air space. His eyes were frantically going left to right. As if the impossible had just happened. Truth is... It did. The Lieutenant started shouting in the room filled with personnel to get the attention of his commanding officer.

''General Carrier, Sir. You are gonna want to see this.''

The entire place had a 1960s bunker vibe to it. Computers, Flags and coffee mugs at every glance. No windows either. In the middle of the room, a single black leather chair with an old man in his late 50s comfortably sipping his espresso at the start of his long night shift. He seemed annoyed by the officer's remark. As he stood up, he seemed crooked to the left. Probably because of the weight of all of his medals and commendations on his uniform. When he arrived at the officer's workstation, he could see the facial expression on the man's face. One of pure terror and uncertainty.

''What is it again Miles?''

''Sir, a massive meteor had just appeared out of nowhere in the earth's atmosphere.'' He said with his eyes wide open in disbelief.

There was no time to prepare. No time to think nor act.

''What? Impossi..'' the general stopped talking with his hands slowly losing grip on his white coffee mug. Almost dropping it to the ground.

''How did you miss this?!'' He said with a judging tone.

''I don't know, sir.. I.. It just appeared out of...'' the officer mumbled his words. He was losing his composure fast.

''Where is the epicenter Lieutenant?'' the General said.

They both had a drop of sweat coming down their faces..

''The city of Alliston Sir...''

''Some say that it will get better. That karma will play its role, and that the bad people will get what's coming for them. After all the wait, I'll get rewarded for all the good that I have done. That I will get my chance one day. I believed those words. My mom used to say them to me every day after school. She always told me those exact words on days that I got bullied or after an interview where the pretty girls or the boss's friends got hired instead of me. Why is that? I was more qualified, better than them! It infuriates me. Everything is rigged.Everything is fake. How could I have believed those words that she kept repeating day-to-day. Sigh.. every single one. What a stupid fool. In the end, did she believe in them herself when she got stabbed by that chick's boyfriend for some pocket change. Who knows... Not the police, that's for sure. They are all in on it anyway in this corrupted city where crime is normalized and tolerated. He got away with it. Can you believe it? Just because his dad is a high ranking politician. The world leaders are not doing anything. Why would they..? They make millions out of it. I wish I could do something about it. I could do everything better than them. If I were them, I would change this world. Get rid of everything that's evil. All the lies. I would show them that a nobody like me can change this rotten world. I'll prove to mother that she was wrong all along. I'll prove all of them wrong. One day.''
