"Are you listening to me?" Mom asks.

"Sorry what?"

"What's eating you?" She asks sitting across from me.

"This new guy." I sigh.

"This is about a boy?" She grins making me roll my eyes.

"He's a jerk. It's Hanna's ex. The one that made her have to move back here. He's here now and ugh. He pretty much called me a dog and Hanna my master."

"Why would he do that?" She asks furrowing her brows. I glance away and she sighs. "I know you love Hanna. We love her. But I didn't raise you to be cruel Joanna. To anyone."

"I know." I groan.

"If he's bad news just stay away. But don't write someone off for a bad choice. We're all capable of those."

"Okay." I nod. Too tired to argue with her right now.

"Go get ready for school."

I do just that. Kissing her cheek I head out to Hanna's car.

"Why so glum, chum?" She asks.

"Tired." I state.

As if she's an Angel she hands me a cup of coffee. I smile tiredly and take it.

When we get to school we head to our lockers then english. Finals are coming up which I dread.

Mr. Franklin comes in.

"Morning children. Today we're going to partner up for our final. If any of you recall what that may be." He winks.

Of course I do it's a presentation on where we'll be in twenty years. Rolling my eyes I open my notebook.

"We'll be picking partners out of this hat. Pass it around. No trading."

I groan internally at the thought of getting anyone besides Hanna. I glance at her and she pulls a face making me smile.

I take the hat and hold my breath as I unfold the paper. Unfolding it I keep my eyes closed tightly.

I open one and my stomach bottoms out. I pinch the bridge of my nose and try to stay calm. Hanna arches a brow and I hold it up to show her.

In black writing. My fate. Alec.
