Today is the day. The day I say goodbye to my family. Damn, I'm not gonna see them for a whole year. I can do this. It's not like I'm a little kid anymore, I'm 19 next month. Oh that's another thing, I'm not going to spend my birthday with my family and friends this year. Well kinda, Sarah's already there, she lives on the same street that I'm going to. Sarah and I are going to a university in Barcelona. Sarah arrived there last week, but they're also on summer break, so she's just trying to get to know her host family. I've been talking to my host family on FaceTime a few times and they seem really kind. They got a son who's around my age and another who's 12 I think and then they got a daughter and who's 4. I'm really gonna miss my own family, but I'm also really looking forward to get to know all these new people. Sarah told me that there's many hot guys, but I don't know. Tyler really hurt me. Oh yeah, I forgot. You don't know who Tyler is. Well... Tyler was my boyfriend, for like whole senior year. He was a football player. I was a cheerleader. He cheated on me several times. But fuck it, I don't need any guys.
"Kira , are you done packing?" My mom shouts from downstairs.
"Almost, I'll be downstairs in a minute!" I look around in my room. It feels weird.
I go downstairs and sees Evan standing there. He looks sad. Evan is my little brother. He's 6.
"What's up buddy?" I say and look down at him. "Why are you leaving, Kie?" I go down on my knees, so I'm his height.
"Oh sweetie, I'm just going to live another place for a while. But I promise I'll be back soon. I'll call you every week. Okay?" I say and smile at him. "Okay." He says and hugs me.
"But we have to eat breakfast before I leave." I'm starving. Evan runs out in the kitchen. I look on the table. "Oooh pancakes." I say exited. I love pancakes. "Enjoy, you won't get this good pancakes in Spain." Mom says. I guess she's right, she makes them better than anyone else could. "Caleb and your dad will meet us at the airport." Mom says, after a while. Her and my dad has been divorced for almost two years now. And Caleb is my older brother. He's in college. I haven't seen him for a while. Even though we are siblings I haven't talked much with him, since he went to college. He only comes home at Christmas, thanksgiving and the 4th of July.

At the airport we've been waiting for my dad and Caleb for half an hour. "We can't wait anymore honey, you're gonna miss your flight." My mom says. She's right.
Just when I'm about to leave I see them running towards us. "Kie!" Caleb shouts and goes in for a hug. I give dad a hug too, even though I don't really want to. After he cheated on mom and they got divorced, he started drinking and all that stuff, he stopped thinking about us. "My little girl is taking all the way to Spain, where did the time go? That's a long trip. 8 hours?" He smells like alcohol. "Yeah 8 hours." I say. I look at the clock. Oh shoot I have to go. I look at mom.
"Be strong my girl." Mom says and hugs me, so tightly I can barely breathe. I'm tearing up.
"I love you mom." I whisper. She tells me that she loves me too and then I go over to Evan.
"See you soon buddy." I tell him. "How soon?"
I start crying, but keep smiling.
"You won't even notice that I'm gone. You're my best friend Evan, you know that right?"
I wave at then and turn my back. I guess this is it. Good goodbyes aren't forever.
