Eddie's POV

I walked around base as all these new kids came in. I sighed and watched them all get settled in.

"Looks like we got new recruits today." I said, standing with my General.

"Yes, Diaz, we do. This is Buckley. She's a new medic here on base. She'll be hanging out with you." General said, pointing at the girl next to him.

She stuck out her hand as I shook it. I looked into her eyes as I nodded. "Eddie Diaz, Medic." I said.

"Kacey Buckley." She said with a nod.

I nodded, remembering her name. I let go of her hand as I walked away. She followed me, so I decided to show her around as I walked around. I pointed things out that she needed to remember and know. As I finished the tour, we ended in the medic tent.

"So what did they teach you at basic?" I asked.

"Um, actually, they didn't teach us much of anything on hands. I did a lot of book reading, though, and understand it through that." She explained.

I groaned, frustrated that times were changing, and not everyone got the right experience.

3rd person's POV

As time passed on, Eddie had been sent home once, and then he enlisted again, leaving his wife Shannon and his son Christopher again. Kacey had stayed in the same fort in the same tent until Eddie showed back up. Kacey was 17 when she had Jack and 18 when she joined the U.S. Army. Eddie had shown her everything she needed to know. With Eddie's training, Kacey had become one of the best medics in the U.S. Army. When the helicopter went down, Eddie decided he needed to save everyone, but Kacey's one priority was to save the man she had been serving with for 6 years now.

"Buckley!! We gotta go!!" Diaz and their captain yelled at her.

"No!! Give me a damn clamp, Diaz!!" She yelled, looking straight into his eyes.

Kacey knew where the bleeding was located. She had read so much, and she knew how to stop it. All she needed was the clamp. Eddie handed her the clamp to her quickly so he could get her and his other buddy out of there. Kacey clamped the blood vein to stop the bleeding. She made Eddie pull him out first. If anyone was going to die or get injured worse, it was gonna be her. As Eddie pulled Kacey out as backup showed up. He held her to his chest as the guns went off and the helicopter blew up. They got saved from the other helicopter and helped them inside and got everyone back safely and sound. As everyone started to wake up, Eddie looked at Kacey as she slept peacefully in the cot next to him. The captain that was with them came over and sat with him.

"You know she is her last year here. She finally gets to go home and be with her kid. Oh man, did she ever tell you about her kid?" Captain asked him as he watched.

"Yeah, in a letter, I was writing to some of the guys and her was I was back home. I needed to get out of there. She told me through a letter that she had him, and then after a couple of months, she got deployed, and the boyfriend is gay but will when she gets home, she wants to go to California to be with her brother." Eddie told his Captain.

"Yeah, she said something about becoming a paramedic firefighter when she gets to California." He told Eddie.

Eddie nodded, smiling, remembering that detail. As Kacey started to wake up, she sat up dizzy. Eddie quickly moved spots and sat next to her, keeping her steady. Kacey leaned against Eddie for support.

"Thanks for helping me out there." She said in a whisper.

"Always gotcha." He said side hugging her.

As time moved on, Eddie and Kacey got deployed back home the same day. As Kacey went to Austin and saw her son was doing great with his dad and grandparents. Kacey left for California as Eddie took his role as father, raising his son. Kacey went to training to become a paramedic firefighter, also with the help from her previous team in the U.S. Army, they put in a good word. She got into the 118. Kacey's first day other job, she bumped into somebody that she thought she would never see again, her twin brother Evan 'Buck' Buckley. As the 118 became her new family. Carlos Reyes was driving towards California to find Kacey so she could be with her son as Carlos faked his death. The childcare services found Kacey and gave her Jack. As she and Jack got acquainted, she kept him hidden from her family still in case her parents were crazy enough to try and find their daughter who snuck out in the middle of the night to go to Texas and live with her boyfriend. Carlos had taken care of her when she needed someone, and she got to follow her dreams and become a medic that could help people. Jack was surprise that they needed each other to stay close and there for one another. As she got to know her new friends, and they all got to know Jack except for Buck. They all knew to keep her and Jack safe from being exposed. As Eddie sat in the back of her mind, she knew that he was very important to her, but as time went on, she thought he might have gone back, but little did she know Eddie always was thinking of her even when he was with his wife. He still had Kacey in the back of his mind to keep her safe and find her one day and give her the picture back. Eddie had a plan to find Kacey, so maybe Christopher and Jack could become best friends, and Eddie could maybe one day confess his feelings that he always had for the girl that he kept safe and was partners with for 7 years of her life.
