The ride is filled with as much chaos as one would expect from Nagito's class. You and Nagito are sitting on the left side of the very back of the bus, while Ibuki and Mikan are sitting on the seat beside you on the right side of the aisle. Gundham and his animals are seated in front of you, while Sonia and Kazuichi are seated in the seat next to him. Nekomaru and Akane are seated in front of them on either side of the aisle from each other. Hiyoko and Mahiru are seated in one of the middle seats together, with Chisa sitting just in front of them. Teruteru is seated directly behind them and he seems to be interested in peeping and eavesdropping in on their conversation. Fuyuhiko is seated alone at the front of the bus, with Peko a few seats behind him. Ryota is seated near the front as well, busy drawing on his tablet that's on his lap. Chiaki is all alone in the seat behind the dedicated animator, playing video games the way she usually does.
You are filled with anticipation the moment the bus's wheels turn. As you pull away from Hope's Peak Academy, you look out the window and notice that someone is watching your bus leave. It's a reserve course student, though you have no idea who he is. He has spiky hair and pale eyes. He has an expression of what appears to be longing on his face. You wonder why he's staring at you. Does he wish he could go on class trips? Do reserve course students even get the privilege of doing that?
"What are you looking at?" Nagito's voice nearly makes you jump. Everyone else is talking in the background, though you've drowned out their voices already.
You tell him you were looking at the student, though the bus has already pulled away and he is out of sight now. You explain to him that a lone reserve course student was watching as the bus left. You ask him if you have any guesses as to who the student could be.
He's almost dismissive in his response. "Ah, just a reserve course student? He was probably watching us because he was envious. After all, who wouldn't be jealous of a class filled with people who have talent? He's surely wishing he could be one of the talented...but he isn't. It's pointless for him to wish he was. Someone born without talent will stay that way no matter hard they try to become an ultimate."
You point out that you yourself didn't have a talent before he and his classmates decided one for you. Once again, he's dismissive. "You're a different case entirely. The talent the ultimates have entrusted you with has been inside you all along...you just didn't know it. Most people are aware of their talent long before they reach the point of being sought out by Hope's Peak. They didn't know you existed partially because you never put yourself out there."
You feel baffled and are unsure of how to respond to that. After all, how would you put yourself out there if you had a talent you yourself didn't know existed? You try not to question him about it because you're sure his mind has justified an answer you probably won't fully understand.
He continues on, turning to face you with a sincerely fond smile. He puts his hand on his chest. "Besides, (y/n), you're unique. You did something that no ordinary person would do. You chose to spend time with me even knowing how worthless my talent is. You still choose to spend time with me over the others even though they're your friends as well now. (Y/N)...you're the first person to ever try to understand me. No ordinary person is capable of such kindness."
You're touched by his words. Not sure what to say to that, you simply put your hand on his lap in an affectionate manner. Your face immediately burns when you realize what you just did. It had been almost instinctual. To your surprise, he takes his hand off his chest and gently sets it on top of yours. A shiver of excitement runs down your spine and you can't help but smile. His pale hand feels so nice placed on top of your own. Your heart is leaping in bounds, filled with joy from the intimacy you are experiencing with the boy you've fallen in love with. You find yourself subconsciously shifting closer to him, pressing your body against his side. Feelings of warmth and comfort flow through you and you close your eyes.
Nagito lets out a very soft chuckle and allows you to stay like that. You find yourself snuggled up against him, cozy and happy to be by his side. You are grateful that he allows you to be with him like this. You think about all the fun times you've had together and are excited for what's to come! You know that things will only pick up from here on now that you'll be alongside him as a classmate. Even if he doesn't see himself as being "alongside" his classmates, it's still true that he is an ultimate regardless. You don't know if he'll ever be able to see himself as one but you'll care about him no matter what he thinks of himself. All that matters is how you see him. You can't change the guy but you can learn to accept his flaws just as he has accepted yours since that fateful day you met.
As the bus drives on, you find yourself somehow ignoring the ruckus the others are making. Even though some of them are quite loud, you feel content to just sit and relax without talking. When you are with Nagito, you feel happy even when you aren't chatting with him. Just being in his presence makes you feel amazing. It's so serene and you feel soothed by simply being with him. You wouldn't be surprised if you end up falling asleep on the long bus ride to the camp.
