The city was bright ,as the sun shined through the alleys and bounced off the glass of the building's. A young man, about seventeen walked along the road as cars drove past him, he took a turn into an alley. Looking around to make sure he was alone he unleashed his wings, arching his back as they surrounding him, red and grey colors of his wings surrounded him. Lifting his foot off the ground he flew into the clouds. He lived in a world where demons, fae creatures and humans lived together in unison. The young man was half human, half demon. Which made his life a bit difficult.

Flying in the clouds he felt at peace, anytime he felt overwhelmed or stressed from work and school he would go off and take a time to fly around in the sky.  He closed his eyes and took a deep breathe, letting his wings sway around him. He pushed his black rimmed glasses back up the bridge of his nose then decided to go back to the surface. Once he got closer to the ground his phone started to buzz in his pocket. Sighing he pulled it out and he noticed it was his little brother calling. Giving a confused look, he answered the phone.

"Hey max, you okay. You never call this late?" He said as he hid his wings before walking out of the alley

On the other end of the call, max was crying in pain. "Johnathon, p-please come h-home..I need help." He cried, before dropping the phone.  Johnathon quickly ran home worried for his brother. They were two years apart and shared the same mother but max didn't know who his biological father was but was raised by Johnathon's father.

Max sat on the floor as his body felt as if were being ripped apart. His back arched as huge wings released themselves causing Max to let out a scream. Covering his mouth, tears rolled down his face but then grabbed his head. He let out another cry when he felt horns, his skin change colors. He didn't recognize himself, instead of his pale skin, it changed to grey with red and black swirls. His wings surrounded him and they were black. Max saw himself in the mirror and he turned away not recognizing himself, but noticed his normal emerald eyes were now a yellow tint.

Letting out another cry, Max heard the front door open. "John?" He called out. His breathing was ridged as he was panicked. The pain was gone but he didn't know what was going on with him. Hearing the bedroom door open, he looked over and Johnathon filled his vision.

"It's okay Max, it's almost over. Just take a deep breathe and close your eyes. Just ease your breathing."
Max let out a sob as he tried to calm his breathing. "W-what's happening to me." He asked, his breathing was hitched as he looked at Johnathon tears running down his face.

"You're going through demon puberty. Since you're fifteen now, your powers and your demon form are coming through. It will hurt the first few times but once you get used to it, the pain will go away." Johnathon explained crossing his feet in front of him. "But we'll have to teach you to control your emotions so you or no one else gets hurt."

Max nodded and took a deep breath, after a few minutes he was back to his normal self. He looked at Johnathon who gave a sympathetic smile. Johnathon knew the pain all to well having gone through himself . After a few minutes of silences the front door opened.

"Boys I'm home, can I get help with the groceries?" A voice called for them. It was Johnathon's father and Max's stepfather. Once the boys heard him they rushed down the stairs.

"Hi dad." Johnathon said as he grabbed the groceries from him
"Hi Charlie." Max followed suit.

Charlie gave a smile and started putting the groceries away, once he was done he ruffled Johnathons hair. Charlie was human, he and the boys mother were high school sweethearts, but took a break shortly after Johnathon was born but once Max was born they came back together.

"Have you heard from mom?" Johnathon asked
Charlie shook his head, "No. i think she's still at the office. " He said

Their mother was a congresswomen, who represented the demons in the city. She carried a lot of weight on her shoulders, and faced a lot of judgement from the some of  her fellow congressmen and women, but others respected her.

"Anything else happen today?" Charlie asked

Johnathon nudged max, " Max hit the mark today." He said

"Oh you did. Were you home or in public."

"I was home, I was going to head to Nickolas' place but it hit before I could leave our room. Thankfully Johnathon helped me calm down." Max said. Nicholas was Max's boyfriend who was fae.

"That's good, why don't you boys hang in the living room. Call Nickolas over and we'll have dinner started." Charlie said

The boys nodded, Max pulled out his phone out and texted Nickolas. Charlie turned around and got things out to start dinner. Charlie was a teacher during the school year but got a break during the summer. He stayed home with Max, when Johnathon worked. He was taken from his thoughts when the house phone started to ring, since he was close to it he answered.
"Matthews residents, Charlie speaking." He said

The person on the other end of the call spoke in rushed and worried tone which changed Charlie's demeanor. "We're on our way." He said before hanging up.

Johnathon and Max looked over, giving him a concerned look. "Everything alright?" They asked
"Get changed and meet me in the car. Your mother has been in an accident," Charlie said as he grabbed his coat and keys.
