Chapter 8
Sloan had to wander around the palace to avoid the queen's questions about she and Prince Sage sharing a room for her third day there. She was hiding from Sage. She knows he'll make her face the queen to answer those questions. She can't think of anything but to run.
She lost rationality just now.
Soon enough, Sloan got tired of strolling around and went to the palace garden to relax. It's her third time being around here, and she never get tired of laying her back at the large shade tree near the water fountain.
It felt so peaceful, quiet, and compose.
Everytime she's alone, she's tend to be philosophical and think of things that will give her inner peace and less worries.
She regret not bringing a paper and pen with her, she wanted to draw the palace garden. Or maybe she'll paint it, she kind of wanting to paint it.Though she was never good at arts, but she's trying.
Sloan sat under the shade tree and saw a sillouhette far away that was coming. One of the gardeners, she guessed. The gardener was wearing a white clothes that she thinks is a gardener suit and a floppy hat to protect himself from the sun.
He doesn't seem to notice her, mainly because the tree she was laying on was a little far. But she can spot the gardener's facial expressions, he was smiling while cutting something over the grass.
Out of a sudden, she spotted a moving on the bushes behind the gardener. More like a rustle on the bushes. Her eyes narrowed. She slowly stand up, having an instinct to be aware.
In a swift of a moment, her heart almost dropped knowing that the thing that's rustling on the bushes behind the gardener is a big snake.
"You! WATCH OUT! ROLL OVER THE SIDE!!! QUICK!!!"
Sloan run for the gardener's life. The snake seemed to notice the situation and knowing that it'll got caught, it took the chance to attack the gardener but Sloan hastily over in action and save the gardener as they both roll over the grass at the Palace Garden.
Before the gardener even processed what just happened, Sloan took his dagger and look towards the enormous snake that could digest anyone in just one gulped.
The gardener's eyes widened, the one who saved him...WAS THE...WAS LADY SLOAN!!! THE PRINCESS!!!! Well, soon to be princess!!! AND HOW EVEN DOES THAT CREATURE GET IN THE PALACE GARDEN?????
"YOU! RUN! CALL THE KNIGHTS RIGHT AWAY!" Sloan shouted, out of breath.
"Y-YES! YOUR HIGHNESS!"
I'm still 'Miss', Sloan wanted to say, but the gardener ran away already.
Sloan pointed the dagger to the enormous snake, legs almost trembling. The snake scales' was dark as night, and its pupil was shrink, like it was holding an overall grudge throughout its life.
She slowly step back, still pointing the dagger and breathing heavily.
It's fine...I'm not gonna die...
Sloan reassured herself. The last time she fought a big snake like this one was at the Welsam Forest near the Kingdom's south border where she wandered around with Corvina at 16, she had killed it and almost risked her right arm. It was a forest, they're aware of the danger there and fought with various beast.
But this snake here...it shouldn't be here! Why is it here?!
Just as Sloan was making conclusions in her head, the enermous snake hissed at her and move towards her at a swift speed. She lost thinking of next moves and sprint.
Think, damn! Sloan, think! Damn! Damn! Damn!
I take my words back, I'm gonna die today---
The tree!
Sloan saw the shade tree and thought of strategy, a strategy she never tried before but she's been meaning to do her whole life. In the past, she tend to forgot everything she strategized of but now, thank the Gods and Goddesses for giving her signs for remembering it!
Sloan gripped the dagger on her two hands, still the snake coming for her. She's being aware, looking back from time and calculating the chance of the strategy she thought of.
She gulped, she's afraid of closing her eyes as she vertically run over the tree and her feet hanging by the air. The snake's forehead got hit on the tree, Sloan swiftly got ahold of her dagger and striked the snake's forehead from behind. She heard a hissed, and saw a crazy wriggle movement of the snake's body trying to get itself away from pinning to a tree cause by a dagger. Sloan fell over the snake, exhausted. She tried groping the snake's scales and steadied so that she won't be push away by its strong wriggle. She groaned.
Damn...my foot...my foot still hurts. Now my head was spinning...could she get a break?
She's getting thirsty and restraining herself from fainting.
Sloan breathe in relief when the strong wriggle stopped, he gaze at the head of the snake she pinned through the tree using a dagger, and she's certain that it's dead.
She stopped.
It's dead?
It's dead...But...
No...something's wrong.
Big snakes like this wouldn't get killed easily! She's certain! She once cut a big snake's head in the past and it's body still wriggle for about half an hour before it slowly stopped moving and die!
And this one lasted for only about seconds!
Something was wrong!
With that thoughts, she started forming conclusions in her head.
Is this snake...already dying before it comes here? Like it was waiting for someone to end him...or finding food...hunting for survival...but why here? What's wrong???!!!!!
Sloan was about to stand up when someone with a warm arms grabbed her waist and the next moment she knew, she's being carried far from the dead enormous black snake she killed.
Even before stopping and getting away from the dead snake, Sage did not let go of her.
"Your highness! Let go! Something's wrong with the snake and I have to look at it!"
"Sloan, it's dangerous!" Sage gripped her in his arms, afraid.
"No, your highness! It's dead! It's already dead! Not dangerous anymore! I'm going to check something! Something's wrong with that snake!" Sloan almost panicked, not keeping in mind that she's also hurt.
In a matter of time when Sloan was shouting and Prince Sage was holding him tight to prevent her to go near the snake, almost all the people in the palace witnessed the dead enormous snake at the Palace Garden and become terrified.
The knights started to surround the snake , "Don't go near! Back away! It's still dangerous!"
All of them was distracted both by the snake and Sloan shouting.
What's wrong? What's going on? They asked themselves and become more terrified.
After the knights shouted, Sloan's sight slowly turned black and fainted. Prince Sage paled and panicked just as the people in the Palace Garden.
When the king and queen arrived there, it was all a chaos.
Only Sage could only think of one thing at that time.
Sloan.
