Jaywatcher yawned.
Dewpaw was already grooming himself beside her, awake and ready to start the day.
"Good morning, Dewpaw." Jaywatcher stood and arched her back in a stretch.
"Hey there, Jaywatcher! I was awake for a while, and one of the apprentices brought us food!" Dewpaw pointed a paw at a good-smelling mouse.
"I ate the mouse they gave me, and I made sure they brought a fresh one for you." Dewpaw purred.
Jaywatcher purred at her apprentice. "Thank you, Dewpaw." She reached over and hooked the mouse with one claw.
Taking a bite, Jaywatcher thought she had never tasted a better mouse. She hadn't eaten since they got to the ThunderClan camp.
Leafsight poked her head into the den. "Um..Dewpaw?"
Dewpaw pricked his ears. "What is it?" He asked, looking at Leafsight.
"The other apprentices...um...you know, Thistlepaw and Squirrelpaw, they wanted to invite you on a patrol." Leafsight stammered.
"Oh, alright! As long as everyone's okay with that-" Dewpaw looked over at Jaywatcher.
"It'll be good experience. But remember, these aren't your Clanmates. Don't comment on their ways or something like that." Jaywatcher decided, nodding.
Dewpaw purred and scrambled out of the den.
Leafsight settled beside Jaywatcher. "Hazelstar said I should talk to you. About...um...leaving."
Jaywatcher's heart dropped.
"But I don't really want to leave. Yes, I love my birth Clan but I really don't want to leave you."
Jaywatcher nuzzled Leafsight's neck with a purr.
Leafsight pulled away. "I'm sorry, Jaywatcher. I tried to convince Hazelstar to let you stay longer...At Sun-high a patrol is going to bring you both home."
Jaywatcher head hung. "That's alright. I guess I'll see you soon, at Fourtrees again."
She thought she saw a figure at the entrance of the den, but when Jaywatcher looked, nothing was there.
Just my imagination.
Sun-high came faster than Jaywatcher wanted. Hazelstar had called a patrol to lead Dewpaw and her out of camp.
Bearclaw, Cloudwing, and Amberstorm herded the two ShadowClan cats back to their camp, and when they passed the bramble tunnel into the ShadowClan camp, all the cats turned to look.
"Redstar." Amberstorm lifted his chin towards the ShadowClan leader, who was eyeing the ThunderClan patrol and Jaywatcher.
"Amberstorm. Are our warriors ready to return?" Redstar asked, and Jaywatcher could tell that he was trying to act civilized.
"Yes." Amberstorm murmured.
"Thank you. Tell Hazelstar that she has my gratitude." Redstar meowed, leaping down from the rock.
As the ThunderClan patrol left, all Jaywatcher could think about was Leafsight. She had bonded more than normal when she was in the ThunderClan camp.
Redstar's voice snapped her out of her thoughts. "Jaywatcher, Pinewhisker. Dewpaw, you too. In my den. Now."
When all the selected cats sat in Redstar's den, Pinewhisker's tail flicked. "Where is Badgerheart?" He asked.
Redstar looked at the dark brown tom. "Badgerheart got bitten by a rat. Marshskip and Silverpool are trying to stop the infection."
