At these months of the year, only the sea was a refreshing escape from the blazing sun and the burning asphalts, an escape from the sultry air that seemed so thick, one would probably be able to slice through it.

The waves crashing against rocks, against cliffs and sparkling like glitter as they did. The sea was so turbulent yet so calming when those balmy, blistering days hit.

For as long as the heatwave lasted, [Name] would spend her time in a remote cove with sand so white, it hurt one's eyes on sunny days, with boulders and rocks surrounding the water, they would make her feel isolated from the rest of the world.

Yet occasionally, she allowed someone to join her when she escaped from reality by disappearing to said cove to go for a swim, probably read a few pages if the sun was a bit more gentle.

Today was one of those days again, where Loki decided to sneak off with her. There was never too much talking between them, yet both of them appreciated it. The world could be loud enough at times.

Small waves stroked her feet as she stood in the wet sand, taking in the soft breeze that scurried across the beach before it would subside into nothing.

Relief graced her features as she let herself glide into the slightly cool water. Minutes passed, the water carrying her body as well as her thoughts as she took deep breaths, in and out.

In the distance, Loki had taken a seat on a larger boulder, a book opened next to him though his eyes were following [Name] as she swam. His legs dangled in the air, a few meters above the sea's surface. The first few buttons of his white shirt were undone, the fabric fluttering as another breeze appeared.

It brushed his black curls out of his face as he closed his eyes to take in the sound of waves crashing as well as the slightly golden sunlight.

"Do you not want to join me?"

[Name]'s voice ripped him out of his thoughts. She was glancing up at him as he sat on the boulder as if it was his throne, and he was the king.

"The water's nice, it's peaceful and cooling", she smiled as she ran her hand through the salt water enveloping everything of her body except her head.

"I'm good", he replied from above before running his hand through his curls. For a moment, she wondered if they would smell like him, or like the briny sea air, or like a mix of both.

[Name]'s glance kept lingering on him as she wondered why he'd refuse to join her. Whenever he had come along with her on her little trips, he'd sat on that exact rock, either reading a few pages or watching her.

"You're able to swim, aren't you?"

He scoffed, chuckling. "I am. It's not that, neither is it because of you, [Name]. Promise."

A puzzled expression spread across her face as she tried to figure the reason for his restraint.

"You don't need to undress, if you don't feel comfortable", she tried again. "I'd be glad if you were to come down here, only once."

She perceived his sigh that followed her words, causing her to believe she'd gone too far, and that she should've simply let him be.

Yet when she turned to aim for the shoreline, a splash into the waves behind her caught her off guard. [Name] spun around, not being able to spot Loki up on the boulder but next to herself as he emerged from the sea's surface.

A visible smile slowly appeared on his lips as he swam closer to her, his shirt stuck to his body, his curls to his forehead, and he was chuckling.

Loki chuckled as [Name] held onto him, as she attempted to brush the wet curls out of his face, as she laughed, as they both seemed to levitate in the salt water.

For a moment, only their laughter was to be heard in the silence of peace enveloping them.
