"Thanks again for the help, boys." Soph says exhausted. Opening day is always energy draining, nevertheless the time and effort put into making it so special is what's worth it.

"No problem," Nate says effortlessly picking up Soph. "Gotta get Dyl home. You too, Goldy. Party is tonight, I'd hate for you guys to sleep through it." He insists as he grabs Soph's car keys and phone.

"I'll sleep when I'm dead." I joke. The truth is I'm not sure how I'll ever be able to sleep again after what happened with Jack.

Every time I think about it, my face turns a bright shade of pink and my stomach releases a cage of butterflies. You'd think this is a good thing, but in my case it's quiet the opposite.

As enticing as Jack is, he's a complete asshole. I mean shit, he's been in Carlsbad for less than a day and walks around like he built this city from the ground up himself.

"Come on, Aug. At least chill with us for a little? If you don't leave with us now you're going to overwork yourself." Caden insists.

Once Tanner has his mind set on something, there's no way he's going back, so I decide to give in and head to Nate's with all of them.

"That's my girl!" Caden exclaims throwing his arm around my shoulder.

The guys and Soph linger around for a few more minutes as I lock up Ryder's and grab my things from the back room.

"I'll take those, thank you." Ford says grabbing my bag and planner.

"Not this." Quickly shaking my head, I yank back my planner and tuck it close to my chest.

"August. Give yourself a break. Please?" Ford says warily bringing his voice low enough for only the other to hear.

As oblivious and laid back Ford is, he knows me like the back of his hand. Constantly having my planner in hand is extremely important to me, I can run off a schedule, and not having to stress about what I'm doing next is music to my ears.

Regardless of the fact, I do need a break from today. Between running around the shop, finals next week, and getting damn near hypnotized by Jack, I could heavily use a drink... or three.

"Okay. Okay, but please can I at least put it in my room. I'd hate for it to get lost or anything." I insist.

Ford caves and hands me back my planner with a soft smile on his face. I can tell he worries about me, but truly the only time he would need to worry about me is if I didn't have this notebook in my possession.

"Yo, who's the guy at Tower Five?" Caden points out as we all walk over to the parking lot of the shop.

"Never seen him before." Ford adds.

"Ugh fine. I guess I'll go see who it is. Maybe he's lost and needs my number or something." Soph says giggling as she throws her arms up in a sarcastic defeat.

"Nice try, Dyl." Tanner tsks as he pulls Soph back over to us by the loop of her jeans on her waist band.

"I don't know about you, but If I was lost, a five-foot-one brunette's phone number is not a solution to that problem." Ford responds while holding back a laugh.

"Would solve all of mine." Caden says as he starts the jog over to the mystery guy.

We all trail behind him, kicking up sand as we run and uncontrollably laughing. It's around six pm and the sun lingers just low enough to cast pinks and oranges across the sky.

I smile at the way the cool air feels against my skin and the fact that no matter where you are in Carlsbad, California, the fresh smell of the ocean and yummy food, stays present.
