OLIVE REYES has lived in Cousins her whole life. There are very few people that actually live in that town since most of the homeowners are only there in summer so she only really had one friend in town during the other three seasons, Cameron.

But Olive had friends that only came during summer, they lived next door to her. The Fishers and the Conklins. Olive immediately clicked with the only girl out of the four kids,
Belly. And after a while of getting to know the three boys, she became close with them as well, specifically Steven and Jeremiah since they were her age.

For as long Olive could remember, her parents had always wanted to do annual summer cruise trips, but Olive always said no, hating being stuck on the boat with motion sickness nonstop.

So her parents went without her and Olive didn't mind. She knew how much they wanted to go on those trips so for a while, Olive lived with Cameron during summers, but when they turned thirteen, Cameron's mom didn't approve of the idea of a girl sleeping at her house.

Olive just stayed in her quiet, empty home, spending time with the Conklins, the Fishers, and Cameron during the day.

After overhearing Olive's living situation when the young girl was talking to Belly about it, Susannah and Laurel insisted Olive stay with them during summers, taking the spare room they had. Olive hesitantly accepted the offer and soon, Olive was grateful she had said yes. She was so happy in the house with the two families.

After a couple of years spending her summers with the Conklins and the Fishers, Olive started to notice how her stomach would flutter and her face would faintly heat up when talking to Steven.

Olive wasn't oblivious. She knew she had a crush on Steven, but it was small. Just a friend that is nice to look at. She pushed it down, deciding that keeping him as a friend was better than the possible rejection and neglect she could get. She hated to admit it, but every summer that crush grew more and more.

Now, it's the summer right before Olive, Steven, and Jeremiah's senior year and when the annual debutant ball starts to roll around, Olive finds her feelings towards Steven harder to keep down.
