SERGIO
"Pierre Bourdieu once said, the difficulty in sociology is to manage to think in a completely astonished and disconcerted way about things you thought you had always understood." With my hands in my pockets I slowly paced the front of the room.
I could easily sense the anxiousness as this group of students were in their first year.
"I'm certain each and every one of you will do exceptional during the examination period. I've emailed all of you an outline of what could potentially be asked in your papers." This information seemed to ease most students, the rest however, still seemed worried. "Ensure that you prepare well and you'll be fine. I'll see you all after summer break."
The quiet room erupted with the sounds of students saying thank you professor, shuffling and chatter. To the students who said goodbye as they exited I just gave a curt nod.
It happened to be mostly women who said goodbye for obvious reasons but their was only one woman on my mind. Which I was going to see right now.
When I texted Aaliyah and asked her where she was, she informed me that she was currently in the library. I told her I'd see after my class to which she didn't respond the way I had hoped she would.
When the last student had left the room I grabbed the keys of the lecture hall. When I stepped foot outside I locked the door and then quickly strolled towards the library.
When I entered the vicinity, there were tons of students. They were too engrossed in the books in front of them to pay me any mind as I walked towards the back of the building.
Aaliyah was hidden behind the bookshelves, relaxing on the plush couch with a book on her lap. She dragged a purple highlighter over the words I'm assuming she thought was important.
She hadn't noticed my presence yet so when I sat down next to her she jumped slightly and then gave me a look of disapproval.
"Professor." She said through gritted teeth, placing her book and highlighter down on the small wooden table. "What are doing here?" Aaliyah looked around slowly and scanned the area to see if anyone could see us.
"I needed to talk to you." I could instantly pick up on the fact that she didn't appreciate my nonchalant tone of voice. When I placed my hand on her thigh she slapped it away making me laugh.
"This isn't funny Sergio. What if someone sees us?" She was definitely whisper yelling.
"Nobody's going to see us amore. Would you calm down?"
"Calm down? Sergio this is reckless, even for you. What was so important that you needed to see me in order to speak to me. You could've just texted or called." I bit my lip and tried masking my smile but failed miserably. "What's so funny?"
"Your feistiness always turns me on amore." Aaliyah rolled her eyes and was about to pack up her things when I quickly grabbed her wrist. "Okay wait, I'm kidding. I know I could've texted or called but you were two minutes away from me and I wanted to see you."
My voice softened as I uttered the last five words. "You saw me this morning." She stated matter of factly.
"I know that." My grip around her wrist tightened as she watched me with intent. "You know that's not what I meant, I couldn't even touch you and it killed me. It was probably the longest hour of my life."
"Stop." Her voice was barely audible at this point. I didn't think it were possible for us to talk any softer given the fact that we were in a library and already whispering. "What did you want to talk to me about?"
