3rd person's POV
Everyone showed up to work on time. Kacey was in the locker room getting ready. Hen was up on the balcony with Buck and Chimney. Eddie was sitting on the couch. Kacey walked up to the balcony and sat down in the kitchen. Bobby was watching everyone and noticed Eddie and Kacey weren't talking. He would ask about it later when he got Buck alone. Kacey got up and stood next to her brother as someone came into the firehouse. Shannon walks in and looks up at them.
"Hi, I'm here to talk to Eddie." Shannon asks nicely.
"Diaz, you have a visitor." Kacey said without any emotion showing.
"Yeah, alright, Buckley." He said as he got up.
Eddie saw Shannon and ran downstairs, walking her out of the firehouse to talk to her. Bobby watched as Kacey walked back to the kitchen table and sat down. She was holding back tears. The bell rang, and everyone ran to the truck getting in. The truck held Eddie, Buck, and Kacey in the back seats. Hen and Chimney went into the ambulance. Buck looked between his best friend and his twin sister. He didn't know what to say, but he knew Kacey was mad, and Eddie had put her in the back of his head to focus on his wife and kid.
"So what was that about back there?" Bobby asked, trying to get Kacey or Eddie to talk.
"What was what?" Kacey asked.
"Oh, the lady that walked in, she's my wife. She was telling me that she was going to see Christopher at school for lunch." Eddie told them.
Kacey rolled her eyes, trying her best to push all the memories she had with Eddie out of her mind, but they wouldn't just go away when Eddie and her were basically partners in the u.s. army together. They shared so many memories together. She wanted them all gone, but she was in too deep. Eddie could push his memories back. They got to the scene, and Hen and Chimney were doing everything they could for Shannon. Kacey ran in helping them as Chimney pushed Eddie back so he didn't get in the way. Hen and Kacey got her to the ambulance and as Chimney got in the back with Eddie, Kacey got up front and drove her way to the hospital as she listened to Eddie tell his wife how much he needed her and Christopher needed her. As Kacey pulled in, she parked, and Chimney started CPR. As they rushed her in and gave the report, they tried everything, but it was too late, Shannon was gone. Eddie had grabbed Shannon's clothes and stuff as he started to leave. The 118 crew stood there as he walked past, and Bobby and Kacey were at the end of the line. Eddie hugged Bobby and then pulled back, leaving the hospital as Bobby sent him home. Kacey stood there in hurt and pain she felt her heart nearly shattered as Eddie walked past her Bobby decided he would send everyone home, but Kacey decided to continue to work as everyone else besides her, and Bobby went home.
As a few weeks passed, Kacey was working on her off days and continuing to distract herself from Eddie, Maddie, and Buck. Hen and Bobby were helping her with Jack when they could, but they were all just worried about their friend. Buck had told Maddie about Jack, and well, Maddie told their parents, and they immediately wanted to meet Jack, but Buck told them and Maddie no cause he knew how Kacey would feel. Every time Eddie tried talking to Kacey, she would walk away and ignore him. Kacey knew that she needed Eddie, but she couldn't after what had happened those few weeks ago, Eddie had walked away, leaving her heartbroken when they both knew that they needed each other at that time. Something they didn't know was that Kacey was fighting to get her anger under control and trying to control her black outs. The thing was that Eddie was fighting as well, and Eddie noticed his next fight was a girl. He didn't want to fight a girl, but if he backed out, that made him a coward. Eddie and Kacey showed up to the fight both ready. Kacey had her face covered so that he couldn't see her face. Eddie was ready to fight. They started the fight, and one thing Eddie noticed about this girl was that her eyes blacked out when she began to swing. Eddie tried tripping her that night, but it didn't work. Kacey knew where he was and what his next move was as Kacey won the fight she removed her face covering and looked into Eddie's eyes as her face went pale. She ran, that's the only thing she could think to do was run as she ran home. She walked in and locked the door turning around to see Bobby, Athena, Maddie, Chimney, Hen, Karen, and Buck all sitting in her living room as she slowly tried to move the door to run again, she felt like she hit a brick wall as she looked up at Eddie. Kacey knew it was time to give up. She had so much adrenaline running through her body as she sat down at the kitchen counter trying to calm down. Eddie grabbed water from the fridge, giving it to her.
She looked at him. "You set this up, didn't you?" She asked, pointing to him.
"Only one way to get you out of fighting, blacking out and trying to control when your not in control plus Buck knew where you went, Bobby could tell something was off, Maddie worried, Hen and Karen asked Jack what was happening, Athena knew about the fights, and Chimney noticed all the bandages at work being used cause some wounds wouldn't stop bleeding." Eddie said as he pointed out everything.
Kacey laid her head down as she started to cry. She couldn't control her tears, she was sobbing as Eddie watched Jack and Chris leave his room and see her.
"Mommy!!!!!" Jack yelled, running to her, hugging her legs.
Eddie watched her as she broke down, hugging her son sobbing. Kacey finished crying after a little while and stood up, looking at Eddie as she stepped closer.
"How could you?!!?" She yelled, hitting his chest.
"I cared about you, Eddie. I was trying to be there for you. But no, you walked past me. You left me to watch you have so much time with your wife and push me to the back burner. I can't just push you away, Eddie!!!!" Kacey, this time screaming at him.
"Kacey, I didn't push you away. I was married. I was loyal to my wife." Eddie said.
"Eddie, you're so stupid! God, I wanna hate you, but I can't!" She yelled again.
This time, Eddie knew how to calm her down and shut her up. He smashed his lips to hers as she slowly kissed back. Eddie placed his hands on her face gently as he wiped the tears from her cheeks as he slowly deepened the kiss. Kacey wrapped her arms around his neck as she kissed back with tears streaming down her cheeks. As they both pulled away, Eddie rested his head on her forehead as he looked into her eyes.
"I didn't push you to the back burner. You were always on my mind even when I was with her. I wanted to be with you, but I had to be loyal. I'm sorry, baby. I always had you on my mind, though Kacey, you never left." Eddie said, then kissed her on the forehead.
Kacey hugged him as she stood there in silence. All her friends had left, waving goodbye to Eddie as he fixed the problem he never meant to happen. Eddie held her close in his arms, so he picked her up bridal style and carried her to the couch as he laid down with her laying on top of him. The boys sat on the ground in front of the couch as he turned on Cars for them to watch as he watched Kacey.
