People say that the day Maera Targaryen was found astride Vermithor The Bronze Fury, was the day that the Targaryen dynasty doomed itself. It was no fault of the girl's own, and nothing truly pointed to her being the cause of all the misfortune that occurred in her lifetime. But they never said it because of her. In truth, the girl never did anything wrong. Rather, they said it because her appearance marked the beginning of the descent into chaos that the realm found itself thrust into. Without Maera, and later her children, the Targaryen line may have died out. But without them, maybe there would never have been that risk to begin with.
But in truth, very few remember Maera for more than for her dragon, and what was believed to be her greatest achievement; her eldest daughter, Aemrys Targaryen.
