Crossroads: Almost too Good to be True

Summary:  Lucy and Kevin have been settled into Crossroads for three years. Ruthie after a horrible breakup joins them. She finds love, friendship, and learns Crossroads is not perfect as it seems

Chapter one - The Move

Ruthie was nervous and it surprised  her, she didn't normally get nervous about anything . Today she would be moving to Crossroads where her sister and brother in law lived with their kids.  Lucy and Kevin have been in crossroads for about 3 years and she has heard they made several changes.

Ruthie knew she needed a new start. To start fresh to be away from Glen oak and her overly large family but most of T-Bone. Their breakup was messy.  After the family road trip. They moved into a apartment together against her parents wishes.

She even put off college to help support them. They had bills to pay and T- Bone wasn't much help. She worked 40 plus hours at a nearby Factory. She was miserable. Never in her life did she imagine living with her boyfriend and working in a hot factory! The factory job did allow her to build some muscle though.

Ruthie pulled her car into the drive in front of the church know as Crossroads. It was a little growing community. She sat in her car for a few minutiae lost in her thoughts.

" Ruthie! I'm so happy to see you. We haven't seen you in over three years" Lucy told her sister as she was approaching Ruthie SUV.   T-Bone and Ruthie had used all their savings and college funds from her parents to purchase the Vehicle. Well more like T-Bone talked her into it and than instead they needed it. It was a nice Dodge Durango. It wasn't brand new but it for her around.  The Durango was put in her names.

" Ruthie... Ruthie. Earth to little sister" Ruthie was so lost in her thoughts that she wasn't really paying attention to a Lucy l.

" I'm sorry Luce . I'm drained from the drive"

Lucy knew Ruthie been through a lot the last few years and that her relationship with T-Bone ended badly.

" well come , let me show you around. Kevin will come get your bags and take them to your apartment" Lucy explained

Ruthie was slight caught off guard she expected she be staying in their house. " my.. what?"

Lucy went on to tell Ruthie about the apartment she would be staying in " yes your apartment. Ruthie your a young woman and will be working for us here at Crossroads. So you have your own place"

" Cool but I don't know if I can afford a place on my own and I have nothing to go in a apartment"  Ruthie was excited to have her own place. She loved he sister and brother in law but she didn't wanna feel like a guest or a child under their thumb.

" Right! It's free under Kevin and I. As a crossroads employee you some nice benefits.  You will only have to pay for internet if you choose to have it directly in your apartment. There is community Wi-Fi at the library though. It's up to you. It's just a 50 dollar monthly fee to have it in your place" 

Ruthie couldn't believe what she was hearing this seemed to good to be true.  " okay I'll do that. Where do I pay"

Lucy went on to tell her everything gets paid in the church office.  Ruthie and her have arrived at the apartment. It was a binding with about six apartments right behind the church.  Lucy opened the door and her and Ruthie entered the empty apartment.

" I know it's not real big but it's perfect for a young female living alone. One bedroom but you have a full bathroom attached to your bedroom and half bathroom for guest" Lucy told he as Ruthie looked around.

" I do t have any furniture" Ruthie said as she opened the door the the bedroom surprised to find the bedroom was at least fully furnished. " oh well I got a bed at least"

Ruthie looked around the bedroom. It was decent size. The apartment itself was much better than the dump she and T- Bone was living in.

" Kevin brought over our old bedroom suite so you could at least be able to sleep here tonight. I'm taking you shopping tomorrow to find stuff" Lucy told her. Lucy seemed way to happy since Ruthie has arrived.

"You don't have to do that Lucy. I can manage. A bed all I need."

Lucy gave her sister a serous look. " nope your going shopping! You need a couch and everything for a kitchen.  We can use your sign on bonus and we can help"

Ruthie actually had a decent amount of money saved from working that T-Bone didn't know about. " Luce I have money"

" oh I didn't know with you know... " she trailed off as Ruthie interrupted her. 
" I worked full time and saved what I could"

"'Okay great!  You had a meeting at 3:30 to meet the mayor and discuss what you will be doing as a employee than supper is at 5. You are not required to eat with the community must most of us do at least a few times a week"

Ruthie couldn't believe how great this all seemed. Lucy has just got called away so she was alone now. She had some time before the meeting.  She figured that's she would get to see her nieces and nephews.

She took this time to look around and make a mental note of what she would need.  The apartment was not big and didn't have a lot of stage so she knew she made need some extra storage units or something. She hoped to meet some of her neighbors at one point..

The job Lucy didn't tell her much about other than she would be working with the youth girls and would have a partner that would be working mainly with the boys.

Ruthie laid down on the bed to take a quick nap but she knew she wouldn't sleep. She doesn't sleep good anymore. Her thoughts wouldn't slow down long enough for her to nap. She was about to begin a new journey.  After the last few years she really needed this.

She would be meeting several people in a few hours. It would be exhausting. Crossroads was a small community and would be a chance from what she is used too.  Thankfully she didn't have to pay rent or utilities other than internet that was already a huge benefit. 

Ruthie unlocked her phone to check her bank balance. She wanted to make sure T-Bone didn't figure out access to it. She has two accounts. One he had access to and one she kept from him.   Than she decided to browse for nearby stores and decided it was time to spend some of her savings. This apartment felt so empty and needed to be filled. 

She finally dozed off but was awaken by her phone ringing. It was Kevin.  Ruthie swiped to Answer " hello" she said very sleepy.

"Hey kid. We missed you. Hope your adjusting well. Lucy getting little anxious. Are you on your way to dinner?"

" Shoot! I fell asleep I'm on the way. Thanks for calling"

Kevin hope Ruthie would like it here. It was a adjustment for him too. He learned after taking the Sheriff position that he would also be working the nearby town. It was a hour drive and that that town was full of crimes and drugs. It was t a real large town. Population of about 4,000. Most of them attended church at Crossroads on Sunday.

Some of the teens in that town was into some deep stuff. A few of them attended crossroads with their parents.  The parents probably forced them to come. They had one young man who is a resident of crossroads that they feel is into some trouble.

Ruthie and her co- leader would be organizing activities, classes, sports, and lectures Dow the youth along with counseling. He hope Ruthie would be able to make a good impression on the young teens.   They hired Ruthie to even it out so that their would be a male and female leader. Now once Ruthie found out who she be working with.. Lucy was probably going to get a ear full for not telling her.

Kevin than called the young man that would be working with Ruthie.  He suggested for him to introduce himself. After dinner when Ruthie would be back at her apartment. The young man was going to be getting back from visiting his father soon..

Things was about to get a lot more interesting in Crossroads.
