"Hey, here's your drink." Kai says softly, propping himself up on the barstool next to me. The guilt I feel right now is unreal, ditching him like that wasn't my best second impression but I'm hoping to make it up to him.

"Thank you, Kai." I reply taking a sip and turning my focus towards him.

"Is everything okay? What did Jack want?" His question completely throws me off causing me to lightly choke on my drink. I had no idea Kai and Jack knew each other which frankly, just adds to the list of complications.

I like messing around with Jack, but that's simply all it is, messing around. Him and I could never be anything serious which is exactly what I don't want. As fun as it is to tease each other and get on the others nerves, it would be silly to even imagine us together in a romantic way.

Kai seems like the sweetest, genuine guy and I really want to get to know him, which is the main reason I made the rule with Jack. I know that if we continue to mess around and talk, I won't be able to control myself.

"Oh nothing serious, lifeguard question." I lie but try to leave a convincing smile.

"So tell me about yourself, pretty girl." Kai says leaning back into his chair and adjusting his pants. Oh my god.

I hesitate to answer and take a second to look at him. Golden tan skin, freckles crowding his face and the most heart melting smile I've ever seen.

His chocolate eyes search my face waiting for an answer which makes me giggle.

"What?!" Kai exclaims nudging shin with his knee. We are only a few inches apart and my legs are tucked to my chest as I sway back and forth on the barstool.

Music blares throughout the house and even though every person in Carlsbad is here at Nate's party, Kai's presence makes me feel like we're the only people in the room.

"Well-" I start but quickly get cut off.

"What did I tell you, Statler." Caden says swooping me off of the barstool and plopping me on the counter. I can't help but laugh hysterically because I know Caden is drunk as hell and can't help but mess with everyone here.

"I got all good intentions, Tanner." Kai insists lifting his hands in the hair to keep them visible.

"Yeah, yeah. See you at training, Station." Caden laughs while saluting Kai and I, while stumbling against the barstool I was sitting at.

"Station?" I ask, still collecting myself from laughing so hard.

"Yeah like a train station. It's okay you'll get it when you're sober!" He exclaims losing his balance again and leaning against Kai.

"Come on, Tanner. Let's get your drunk ass to bed." Kai chuckles while grasping Caden's arm and walking him towards the stairs.

"Be here when I come back?" Kai asks looking over his shoulder at me. I nod and can't help but wear the giddiest smile as he walks away helping Caden up to his room.

I plop myself back on solid ground and circle the kitchen island hoping to find something in the fridge. I open the doors and can't help but notice the sight of absolutely nothing.

"This fridge looks like it belongs to a divorced father." I hear Soph say and giggle behind me. I quickly turn towards her smiling because as familiar as this house is to me and as safe as I feel being here, I didn't want to navigate through the party by myself.

"Grocery shop tomorrow?" I ask leaning my head on her shoulder.

"Yeah, I've had cinnamon toast for the last three days, I'm going to need a switch up asap." Soph replies laying her head on top of mine and shutting the fridge.
