What goes too long unchanged destroys itself.
The forest is forever because it dies and dies and so lives."It calls to us. The wilderness calls to us."
For many people there will never be a world in which survival comes at a psychological cost. They will ever know what it means to feed and be fed: kept alive only by the flesh of the dead. They will never have to sacrifice every loving part of themselves just to keep going ─── ripping their skin from their bodies to reveal the stark white ivory that lies beneath.
Rebecca McCoy had been suffocated by her psyche. She had seen the darkness which grew in the world and begged to be released from its punishing hands. She had cried and screamed and kicked and lived for nineteen months in her own head unable to escape the visions that chased her.
Yet she emerged with her life; with her strength. She survived, not against but aided by, the wilderness and all it stood for. When all else had seemed hopeless her friends had provided what little they could; they'd given their lives to feed the dying and, in turn, allowed the world around them to keep spinning.
Rebecca held no regret for what she'd done. What they'd done. Girlhood on its own was always bound to be a minefield. There was little doubt in her mind that had they never stepped on that plane they still would have devoured one another. Perhaps not literally but in some sense of the word. They would have starved beneath the secrets they kept and fed on the ones they shared ─── dying in the brutality that came with being a teenage girl.
The Wilderness gave and gave and so took; asking only for a sacrifice in return for its hospitality.

as REBECCA MCCOY" teenage girls aren't bad people. they just . . . feel everything, and that's scary. "
warnings. blood, guts, gore, sexual themes, cannibalism, death, abuse, trauma, self harm, graphic violence, suicide, more cannibalism, mental health issues, psychotic breaks, unhinged behaviour, deeply disturbing themes & anything else seen in yellowjackets. please just. . .be aware and read at your own discretion.
author's note. an unreliable narrator, unhinged teenage girls and a gay soccer coach who is literally just surviving out of spite at this point? yes please.
i'm really excited to write this fic because it finally gives me a chance to write an oc who is truly and utterly out of their mind. rebecca has been such fun to plan because she is so fucked up. like religious trauma, depression, a pyschotic break that leads her from being mostly sane to believing that she can hear the tree's talking to her. she's pretty cool.
yellowjackets is such an interesting show to write fics for because there is so much room for creative freedom and oc's with complicated personalities. human behaviour is so interesting in survival situations. the way that trauma and fear and the unknown can have an incredibly complex effect on a persons mental well being has always interested me and i love that i finally get to write a story that focuses on such an intriguing topic.dedications. okaywickersham darkhoImes glenrheesgf -adaswong conrzd loneliestluvr joansarc mooncassete -velaryon tangledkisses starlithearts TheUndecisiveSimp bucksapocalypse
